collisions in LDD

Hi,

I am new to LDD and LDraw. I build only "digital free". But now I want to do some proper instructions so I started with LDD.

I am sorry, if this was discussed before, I checked, did not find anything. If this is still duplicity, I would like to ask moderator to merge it with some existing topic. Thanks in advance.

- Is it possible to set up environment somehow that it would ignore collisions? So I would be able to put parts "in each other" or "move them throught each other" - for purpose of composing assembly.

- Is it possible to align parts along Y,Z,X axis or specific vector?

I work professionally in SolidWorks, and I am missing some of the features I know from there.

No, LDD enforces collisions. The LDraw family of tools (MLcad, LDcad, etc.) don't, but they've got a much higher learning curve.

Doesn't Developer Mode let you do that when you click Toggle Physics Test?

I can't really help you with LDD, other users are far more experienced than me with that. I mainly use LDraw, especially LDCad.

If you're coming from SolidWorks, LDCad might 'feel' better. Although, as said before, it has a higher learning curve than LDD, it does have a lot more options, possibilities and features. And the author is active too.

Aside from that, LDraw is often used for 'proper' instructions, often a combination of a CAD program (such as LDCad) and LPub3D.

But, for LDD there's a relative new instructions program too, BluePrint. But again, I don't have any experience with that one, so I can't give you any advice or help with that.

You can sort of align parts along X, Y, and Z axis in LDD. Place Technic axles in the directions you like and slide half-bushes along them... then use the multiple selection tool and click on what you want to move and the half-bushing, and drag the part along with the bushing. I have used this MANY times to place things where they won't connect.
