"See, that is exactly the problem. You're not giving me a chance. There is no problem with being a disciple of Azazot."

"That's what the last one said that I helped put down.  Toying with chaos, death, and misery aren't exactly what we are looking for."

Hoke puts a hand on Simon's shoulder.

"Let's leave this place, quickly."

"Who was it if I may ask?"

"Wait, I wanna see what the others say."

"What's so funny?"

Heckz had to actually laugh when the disciple opened his mouth once again.

Heckz couldn't stop cackling. When he did catch his breath, though, he felt Simon's confused, miserable look upon him.

"Oh, did you say something? Just join and get on with it. I need my beauty sleep, you know."

I have no clue who or what Azazot is. Hoke made some valid points, but there are no visible threats here... hmmm. Why don't we listen to what he has to say and then decide if we leave or stay?

Hoke just shook his head.

"I'll not hear a word this thing has to say unless it is to renounce Zoot."

Hoke turns squarely to Simon.

"If you choose to pursue this, I will not be a part of it.  I will not add to that witch's pool of victims."

Quintessa just shrugged at Hoke's repulsion.

"In Heartland we worship many gods - just to cover our backs, more or less - but Azazot is not among them. We believe he is but a story to explain all the evils mortalkind has committed, so We say there is no harm in hearing this man out."

"We're not so bad, my friend." The priest straightens up. "To be fair, you do not have to participate. If you like, you can wait outside. As for the others,it seems only one of you has the desire to become a disciple. But all who enter this threshhold must pass a test to see if they are worthy of Azazot."

simon.png

"Is it eat a frog?"

priest.png

The priest lets out a deep belly laugh. "No, no, my young friend. It's only a few riddles. Then you can begin your way to become a disciple."

simon.png

Simon looks to Hoke. "You're sure you don't want to do this?" He then looks at the others. "What about you guys? Riddles don't seem that bad. It's not like he's asking us to kill someone."

Riddles? O man... I am bad at those. Torald makes a sad face.

The priest lets out a sigh at Hoke's comment. He clearly wants to say something but wisely doesn't. Then he turns to Torald. "If you can do them, you can. If not, then you're not worthy of Azazot. Are you all ready?"

"Wonderful. Let us begin." He then steps behind the bloody altar and says:

"You have eight gold coins, each one has Azazot on it. These coins are used to gain access to this sanctum. But, one is counterfeit. To tell who is does have access and does not, we weigh the coins. To tell the counterfeit one, it is slightly heavier. Which one is the counterfeit on this balance scale, but you can only use the scale twice."

"Next, there are three boxes. One is labeled Mead. The second one is labeled Phoenix Essence. The third one is labeled both. But, all of the labels are wrong. But Azazot will help you and allow you to reach into one box and see what is inside. Which box shall you reach into?"

"Answer these correctly, and I will tell you the final riddle."

"We shall help you with the first riddle, Simon", Quintessa said. "It is really quite simple. First you put six of the coins on the scale, three on each side. If they match in weight, then you only have to measure the remaining two to find out the correct one. If, however, either side with the three coins is heavier than the other, you measure two of of those three coins. Again, if they weigh the same, the remaining coin is the counterfeit, otherwise it is the heavier coin. There you go, the scale is used only twice in any case!"

Heh, I know the first one. Easy peasy. My dad taught me that one when I was a little boy, with different coins ofcourse. But still a nice riddle.

But I don't really understand the second one. Are we supposed to figure out the contents of all the three boxes with one guess?

"It is impossible to do so", Quintessa scoffed. "Perchance 'Azazot' just wants us to get gifts for free, and we merely need to pick a box."

"... Damn. Nobody has ever solved that one that fast. You are correct."

Heckz poisonously glared at Quintessa when she solved the riddle before him.

He then had a smug look on his face instead.

"Please, the second one is trivial. It's obvious that we don't have to do anything since the guy with the jacked up teeth didn't really specify what he wanted us to do after we looked into the box. Next!"

"Excuse me, these teeth are glorious. And there's no need to do anything after you look into the box, it'sa hypothetical."

OoC: Can i send one of you guys the answer per PM? It doesn't make sense, roleplaywise, for Heckz to say it.

I'm fine with that.

Torald makes a very painful looking thinking face. Then, all of a sudden, his face gets a bright look, and Torald says: I know the answer! You've got three boxes, right? All of them have something inside, but they are all miss-labeled, right? So, what I think what you should do here, is take a look in the box that says "both". If you open it and it shows mead, you know the box with phoenix essence on it is the both box, and the mead box is the phoenix essence box. Same goes for the phoenix essence box, but reversed. Do you still understand?

"Very good!" the priest lets out a cackle. "You have answered correctly once again. Now, it is time for the final question. Let us begin." Just then, five ghostly figures appear in front of the party. "There are now ten of us. Azazot asks us to prepare the ritual. If you are worthy and perform it correctly, the initiation can begin. Arrange all of us in a way so there can be five rows of four people each. For our sake, the apparations count as people. How do you arrange us? Please make sure we are standing around the table."
