Richpepperell Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Evening all, I thought I post this just in case anyone has missed it - this months Lego Star Wars magazine comes with a small (49 piece) build of the Acklay arena monster as seen in AOTC. As well as being a fun little build, their are some pretty useful pieces in dark and sand green - very useful if anyone has a Slave 1 MOC on the go. Nice as it is, I immediately thought of one way to improve it and reached for my Mixels parts pot... 2 eyes and a ball joint later... This gave me the idea to recreate all three of the monsters - the Acklay, the Rhino-like Reek and the feline Nexu in this style! I'd love to see other people's Mixel arena beasts too! Disclaimer: Obviously this is just a bit of 5 minute fun - I won't be submitting it to Lego Ideas any time soon! Quote
jamie75 Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I really wish these magazines were available in the US. I plan on getting these. Nice MOD. I like the use of the ball joint, not sure about the eye pieces. They make him look cartoon-ish. Not fierce and terrifying. Now, try a Reek and Nexu. Jamie Quote
Ap11AP Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) Thank you very much for making me aware of this lovely model (I've always loved the Acklaay since first seeing it ). having now bought it, I really like mini models such as this. The only thing I may change would ge to replace the 'nose' piece with a 2X1 dark green instead. Edited June 9, 2016 by Ap11AP Quote
Retro Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I picked this up yesterday. Have been looking forward to it! Not built yet. Trying to decide whether to give it to my son or buy two... Quote

jamie75 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Cool - that's the vibe I was going for. Next up, the Reek! Well than, you nailed it!! Good job!! He looks like something my kids would want to cuddle with, cat, dog, Ackley, teddy bear. There all the same. Jamie Quote

I bought 2, one for my great grandson and one for me!....next month it`s the mini build TIE Bomber, could be the one that came with one of the now discontinued "Planets" sets (that looked like cool Christmas baubles).
