I hope this has not been discussed yet in another topic...?

Ok... I am by myself an only-OT-systems-collector (in terms of SW Lego..) and I think there are a couple of guys and girls like me on EB..

I wonder now what you people do with your time and money in 2008, considering that there are only 2 little sets for us and nothing from OT announced yet for the 2nd half? Do you buy older sets that you missed out, get shopping cars full of battle packs (which are EU, but count as OT army building for me ;-) ) or save your money for other things (lego or the little life besides lego)? Do you start getting PT or EU or waste your money for the golden 3PO?

I for myself consider to get a few sets and minifigs that didn't make it into my collection so far .. BUT in any case the UCS MF is a bit too big for me, my flat, my credit card and my collection. X-D

THANKS for your opinions / thoughts !! :-)

just to list the OT-sets that are or might be still available for a fair price:

6207 A-Wing

You can add the 10188 SW Death Star ;-)

Well from what we know is there will be later on (from may onwards) 8 Clone Wars sets !!

So I guess you are right Zzz abut 08 beeing poor in OT sets !! If I had to guess, I would think that the later releases in the year will have 1 or 2 OT sets and I would really love that ;-)

Since I am - concerning Lego SW - an only OT fan and set collector I think that 2008 will be getting a very poor year, too.

From what we today know there will be only two real OT sets: The Rebel Scout Speeder and the Death Star.

I really like the Rebel Scout Speeder and I think that the Death Star will be great (although we haven't seen pics yet and don't even know what it shall be and what it shall include), too.

So I'll buy one or perhaps two Rebel Scout Speeders and save the rest of my money for some of the new great City sets and of course for the brilliant and amazing Town Plan. Whether I'll buy the Death Star or not will depend on firstly which will be included (which new minifigs and which rooms) and secondly how much it'll cost. Perhaps I'll even buy it not until 2009.

But apart from these two sets it really seems that 2008 will be a very poor year concerning OT sets.

The only hope is that - like xwingyoda already wrote down - we might perhaps get one or two OT sets in late 2008. First I thought that this is a bit unrealistic and a bit too optimistic, but if you look at this year: We got the news of the Hoth Rebel Base (and the Republic Cruiser (which isn't OT)) very late this year - I think in May, wasn't it? - in any case a long while after we knew the summer SW sets. Perhaps it might be in 2008 like that, too?!

I hope so for some OT BPs - mainly Hoth and Endor would be great, don't you think?! And I hope for a nice minifig Rebek Blockade Runner!

Well in May we did have 3 sets: N1 fighter, JSF and hypering and MTT. ONly around august we had the next wave with the RC, SI and later for the Hoth base and AT-AT ;-)

So I still say there is hope or more OT sets !!

Zzz,

I'm with you. I've cut way back on my SW LEGO buying, so I'll only buy OT stuff. However, I'm hooked on Batman and Indiana Jones, so although this might be a nice SW break for me (and it will honestly be a relief to just be able to buy a few Battle Packs and be done with it), I'll still spend about as much on those new obsessions.

And like you, Klaus-Dieter, I need to see the Death Star before I know if I'll buy it or not. I've wanted one since LEGO launched this baby almost ten years ago...it'd better be worth the wait.

Usually the OT collectors grew up with the OT, and might also be highly interested in their 2nd favorite movie: Indiana Jones! :-D So no: not a cheap year! ;-)

But we can all see the trend that there will be less models coming from OT. IMHO they did nearly every important model from the OT movies. So except for some Endor base/battlepacks or maybe a minifig scale Blockade Runner I guess that TLC will mostly do remakes in the next years?...

As far as iconic vehicles, locations, characters or creatures or figures from the OT, I think we still need:

Death Star (still waiting for confirmation)

Cantina Band (missed opportunity at the Cantina, IMHO)

Tauntauns

Wampa

Rancor

Ewok Village (very unlikely :( )

Admiral Ackbar

...if we ended up with all of those, I'd die a happy SW OT-lovin AFOL. Even without them, I'm happy. LEGO has done a great job with this license, and I've seen things go through improvements and deprovements, but overall, it's been a great line. I'm not quite ready to see the OT die off yet, so I hope we get all of those things I listed above.

The Clone Wars series opens up a whole new avenue that Lego wants to take advantage of. Also, because of the fact that the PT started coming out 8 years ago, as opposed to the OT which came out 30 years ago, the PT is fresh in peoples minds, and little kids love it. More people are going to buy PT sets that they are familiar with than OT sets that they have never seen before. I am a big OT fan, and think Lego needs to get back to them. Maybe the live action tv show will open up the doors for some more sets that either look like OT items, or are prerequisites for some OT items.
