take Batman Hero Factory (4526) head apart and paint soft rubber black

As written in the Action Figure forum, i want to build a black Batman Action Figure based on 4526. My problem is how to take the mask apart from the head, because they are clearly two parts and it would make coloring the mask black a lot easier. On to my other problem: How to paint it black? Since it is the soft rubber, I don't know if dying or airbrushing or just take edding would work best. I hope some of you have experience in that or can link me a thread that maybe already solved these problems. Thanks in advance!
