The Rebrickable Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Hello fellow brickers. In this topic i wanna show my project i am working on. I started well over 1 and a half month ago by building a complete new chassis. At first i had the idea of making a 3 axled truck with a steered trailing axle but then i came across a picture of a Volvo truck which had tandem rearaxle setup + a steered trailing axle which i liked very much. So i changed the axle setup to match the volvo's setup. I use some of the basic setup from the 8258 crane truck with power functions (like the gearbox for the crane and the rear stabs) but the rest is completly been rebuild. At this moment i'm not quitte sure if i wanna make a crane truck out of it or if i gonna make something else Unlike the normal stabs @ the rear of the truck i've build crosstabs behind the cabin which is a complete new way for me the idea of building crosstabs comes from a picture i found at google and it was quitte difficult to get them right only from a picture. I'm still trying to get them connected to the normal propulsion of the stabs so they can extend along with the rear stabs. Here are some pictures of work in progress Although the results are coming nicely there is something that bothers me i don't want to make the rear to long but due to that the tandem axle is frightful close together. I don't know if i can leave it this way or if it need to more separated Maybe you guys have some suggestions ?? This is it for now. I will try to keep the topic updated with some regularity Greets The Rebrickable Quote
Imanol BB Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Hi The Rebrickable, i think this would be an amazing crane truck, about the tandem axle, it is ok in that place, you would only need to put mudguards between it and the other axles, and i must say that the outrigger system is really amazing, i never saw it before, i hope it works so well as it looks, looking forward for more updates. MajklSpajkl Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I just might "borrow" that crossed outriggers design of yours. It looks great! Usualy concrete pump truck have such front outriggers and when I get bigger/older/taller I am planning to habe a go on one of these. Good luck with your further design. Quote
The Rebrickable Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 This morning i started to complete the cabins exterior looking. At this moment i´m quitte pleased with the results. I think that the red and black color scheme fits nicely together. Quote
The Rebrickable Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 After completing the cabin i also finished the cabins interior today To get a more realistic look i've made the complete floor out of normal plates. I've build the seats with technics beams to match the scale and tryed to build a realistic dashboard. full cabin + interior Quote
Mantarri Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) Great looking truck. One slightly off topic question: Is it just me or are the colors in the photos a bit off? Edited May 26, 2016 by XtremeBuilder Quote
syclone Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Although the cabin form and interior look great, I do not like black doors and sides - the look strange. I mean , you could do it or completely red or black with red top. I think changing the front to black would make it look better. Quote
The Rebrickable Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 @XtremeBuilder: it could be the pictures but there is some color difference indeed. some beams are form a slightly other tint then the others due to the oldness of them. @LFX: The problem for me is that from both colors i don't have enough lego to make it completly 1 color Quote
The Rebrickable Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 Here is a little sneak-preview of what is coming in the following days so stay tuned Quote
Imanol BB Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 It looks really good so far, the crane also seems very big (which i think is really nice). Quote
