Hi!

This is my first post on Eurobricks (Insert confetti here) so if I'm in the wrong place correct me please.

Anyway, I have been trying to build an Imperial Army to fill my Death Star and Star Destroyer.

I (and most other people) already have some leaders (Vader, Palpatine, Tarkin, Etc) so the next step would be to get Stormtroopers, right?

Well right now, as everyone knows, Lego Stormtroopers are almost impossible to get.

So next would be to get some gunners, technicians, Etc. But those aren't easy to find either! The Death Star gunners got their own battle pack not too long ago, and Imperial Technicians are in the Imperial Battle Pack but characters like those are hard to find as well!

If anyone can think of a good way to make an Imperial Army fairly cheaply, I and many others (probably) will be very appreciative.

Bye!

Honestly Bricklink is your best choice. It won't be cheap per say but it's the cheapest method to achieving your desired goal. The Rogue One wave of sets seems to promise a LOT of Imperial stuff and most of us are holding out hope for battle packs with plain stormtroopers.

There's also the rebel stormtrooper battle pack that's still out which has 4 plain troopers. Get four of those for about 50 bucks and you have 12 stormies. OR you could do what I did and find a good brick link seller and pick up 12 of the Original Trilogy realistic stormies for 70.

With the gunners just recently out, and the imperial techs currently out in BPs, this is the cheapest they are going to get. If you are OK with the Rebels version of the Stormtrooper, their BP is again the best deal you are likely to get.

Is sw585 the best OT stormtrooper available at the moment?

Yes, if you're not a fan of the Rebels "frown" stormtroopers anyway. If you don't mind those, they're much, much cheaper to acquire in great numbers, and while their torso & leg printing's a little different, it's still very OT-looking... the deep frown is the main drawback because of the silly idea TLG had of making them look "like the show" when that's not really necessary given the style of the other characters.

Techs & crew are a little tougher, tho older styles might be cheaper to acquire with the newer ones out. Maybe. The hats will probably be trickiest.

The Rouge One sets will probably be good. Possibly Rebel Fleet Trooper battle packs! Like most people I don't really like the Rebels Stormtroopers, so I'll probably wait.

Read that, outdated.

I'll check the prices of older figures. I may buy some hats separately depending on how cheap they are.

EDIT: I checked the prices and older figs are cheap, and hats, flesh hands and heads are a few cents each. Thanks!

If you don't need the current Stormtrooper that everyone loves, then you can pick up past Stormtroopers with lesser printing fairly cheap.

Or wait. The new Stormtrooper will probably appear in a battlepack in the next couple years. Otherwise, the current Imperial battlepack is pretty good.

When I saw the photos I hated the current Imperial Batttlepack but once I bought one I fell in love. The shocktrooper looks great. Sure the two stormies are battle damaged but at this point beggars cant be choosers. Theyre also good for creating a platoon of more battle hardened looking troopers. Then the Imperial technician is a great addition to any imperial military.

In regards to Imperial Officers. I would suggest just buying the new ones even if you can only afford a few at a time. They look fantastic, especially if you get dual molded gray pants with black boots off of bricks and pieces. With the addition of the boots they are the perfect officer figure. Without theyre still far superior to previous versions.

Bricklink is your best friend here. I got 8 technicians for about 75 cents a figure. Its a fluke but sometimes after you dig enough you can find fantastic deals. If money is a problem then you should take amassing your army slowly and carefully. Start off with getting maybe two officers and six stormtroopers and branch off from there.

I'm holding out hope for a rouge one imperial battle pack as the frowning rebel troopers just look weird to me. Hopefully it will contain 2 of the recent storm troopers, a death squad trooper and a scarab trooper. But knowing Lego they will give us 1 storm trooper with new printed torso (just to mess with army builders) and 3 imperial guard.

I agree that the latest imperial battle pack is great once in your hands. The shock trooper is excellent, the crew Minifig is an excellent army filler and I converted the troopers into a custom battle scarred veteran unit that really is the stand out of my army. If Lego give you battle scarred troopers, make lemonade I say.

Hmm. Out of curiosity, what set are the duel molded gray and black legs from?

I converted one of my battle scarred Stormies to a Sandtrooper. Just add a pauldron and a backpack (Or you could leave the jetpack like I did) and it looks good! If you use fabric or black paper instead of white paper.

Well as others said you can do the Rebels stormie battlepack or the battlefront one which is really good.

Battlefront bp?

Battlefront bp?

75134 Galactic Empire Battle Pack is based on the Battlefront game (as is 75133). I need to count my Stormies at some point. I've picked up quite a few over the last couple of years (mostly SW585)

Ok, I wondered where in the movies the Rebels got that uniform. Now it turns out it wasn't a movie at all!

Technically the dark tan uniforms from the BP were seen on film from Return of the Jedi rebel uniforms, especially General Cracken and others. I only know as I use Craken as an officer for my troops since the uniforms are nearly identical. It's only the regular tan uniformed soldiers that aren't in the films.

The regular tan from Battlefront also showed up in Shattered Empire, as I recall... on a mission post-Endor, Han's strike team (which he was still leading for a little while, with Poe's father as part of it) were attacking another Imperial base and wore pretty much tan versions of their Endor hoodies & whatnot, so very much like the Battlefront Alliance troops in the Battle Pack.
