Richpepperell Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Today I finally had a chance to do some reorganising in my attic, which mainly involved me (carefully) flattening down a lot of empty Lego boxes for storage. It was a great opportunity to remind myself about sets I haven't built up for years, but what I enjoyed most was looking at the variety of Lego Star Wars banner art we've had over the years. My personal favourites were the McQuarrie-esque Vader from the 2008 Rebel and Imperial battlepacks and the Darth Maul-topped sets from 2012 (that was a good year for SW sets in my eyes!). My least favourites - the blue and white Clone Wars sets with the close-up, front facing clone helmet image and the 2005 ROTS sets (I think the colour scheme just looks a bit cheap). It got me wondering - what are peoples favourite box-art characters and who would you like to see in the future? (I for one can't wait for the RO packaging to kick in!). Quote
Khscarymovie4 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I personal like the one from the 1999 sets. Luke, Han, Leia, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and a Stormtroper in front of the Death Star. Quote
Forresto Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I remember when the RotS sets came out I loved the design, although you are absolutely right as an adult now looking back it does make everything look cheap. They came out at one of the heights of collecting (although at that age it was still all playing then anything) Lego with me. So I have fond memories of the packaging look. The yoda one from a couple years ago of course looks great. Ralph McQuarrie Vader was perhaps the coolest. I did not love the clone wars packaging, it was okay and at the time it looked decent enough but there's something garish about the look. Quote
duboismerci Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 The 2013 green top with Yoda was the best one. It just looks perfect and attracting. It's also the year I started collecting again with the new republic gunship. First set since 1999. Quote
strider117 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I really loved the McQuarrie Vader and Maul too, but thought that the Rex from 2011 or so and the 1999 throwback in 2009 (Endor Bunker, Mon Calamari cruiser, etc. wave) were the best. Quote
PickleManDan Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 My favorite has got to be the Rogue One box, even though it has not been released yet. I just love all the vehicles from the empire, and the color scheme reminds me of the Death Star. My second favorite design is the classic box design. Iv'e only had one set with that box art, yet I just love the minifigures and the Death Star behind it. Quote
RetroInferno Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 (edited) The Rogue One theme coming is gonna blow every other box art out of the barrel, but I quite like the reaching Vader from 2014, that box art was nice. Edited May 16, 2016 by RetroInferno Quote
ChiefPie Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Captain Rex one and the upcoming Rogue One version as well as the Vader reaching out and the one that had old style OT characters that was on the Home One set. Quote
Junior Shark Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 1999, McQuarrie Vader, and Rogue One. But when we get Rey on the box art for VIII or IX that'll shoot to the top of my list. Quote
brickmasterben11 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Where is there a picture of the Rogue one box? I would like to look at it. Quote
