Dafgek81 Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I have a few old type pneumatic switches, some of them are starting to leak air under pressure. Can this problem be fixed. I hope so, even if it takes using glue, I am open for options. Quote
nicjasno Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 They can be fixed as long as the inlets aren't cracked. I do it all the time for the pneumatic engines. Which swich type are they? Quote
allanp Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Sometimes the rubber/silicone seals can degrade and "dry out". It may be possible to recondition the seals with some seal safe lubricant. Do NOT use anything petrolium or solvent based. Quote
dr_spock Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 You have to determine where it is leaking first. Is it a cracked housing? Bad seals/gaskets? Quote
DrJB Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Sometimes silicone grease does wonders ... I've learned that from an old hobby of mine: saltwater fish tanks. Quote
Dafgek81 Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 It is the ok type, the ones used in 8868 and 8862. Nothing cracked, but it seems like the cover that clicks on the housing to hold the black lever in place is giving way. Quote
nicjasno Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 (edited) The simple fix is to pry cover off, apply superglue around cover edges and click it back on, while firmly pressing it together, untill glue dries. The switches start to leak because the pressure on the rubber onto the switch surface is not high enough to ensure a tight seal. You regulate that pressure with the back plate.
