Hybros also drank a Mead and knocked on the door. "Erm, hello? Heroes of Heroica, we are here to help."

OOC: Please add one Guffington's Seal (Proves the Hero is a Friend of Guffington. The hero starts every quest with one "Hero's Cocktail") to Hybros' inventory. :classic:

Hero's Cocktail (Makes the hero encouraged, hastened, lucky and inspired)

"He's got a bird too? Now he's just tryin' to get in my head," mumbled Atramor, rapping on the door with the back of his hand. "Dunno if even I could pick this damn lock. But is our plan really 'hope the archdemon opens the door for us'?"

"You know, speaking of a man with a hat, there's one on the castle yonder with a bird on his arm. The same bird we saw flying overhead but a moment ago."

I relate what I see to the other heroes.

Althior waits and sees if Hybros' knocking leads to anything. "If we don't get anything here, I move we advance towards the castle. We seem to have a pretty good lead there,"

"That sounds like our man."

I listen on intently. The other heroes seem to be well acquainted with the man in question.

"I will assume you've tried to defeat this fellow before now?"

Hybros also drank a Mead and knocked on the door. "Erm, hello? Heroes of Heroica, we are here to help."

Someone inside gasped audibly at the knocking. Then a woman's voice shouted.

"Go away, demons! You aren't getting in as long as the Mother guards us!"

heroicanpc-byblos.jpg
"It sounds like at least some of the citizens have survived the ordeal. And this confirms the presence of demons. I do wonder why we haven't been attacked yet, though? Do you want to try to convince those inside that we're not spawns of Azazot trying to trick them? I wouldn't bet on our chances of success..."

I equip the good book again and attempt a conversion through the door.

"Do not worry. We are messengers sent from God to destroy the demons that are consuming this place. We are here to help and we will do our utmost, through the power of God to restore your city to its former glory. Tell me what you have seen and heard so that we can know how best to counteract the evil that those who would seek to destroy you are causing. You have no reason to fear us.

The same woman spoke again.

"Do not listen to these demons! They only speak tricks and lies. Remember what they did to your families and friends. They will give up sooner or later, and leave this town. We just have to weather this out, together, by the mercy of the Mother."

Pretzel's conversion failed, for the people inside were not responsive to listen to him.

"Whatever the reason I guess we might as well continue to the castle, no use standing around here, they either trust us or they don't, and for the time being it seems they're firmly on the don't side."

"To the castle it is, then." Byblos gazed towards the imposing building basking in green light. "Just be prepared for anything."

The party faced no opposition at the castle's gates, nor at the front doors. There wasn't a soul to be seen anywhere. They made it all the way to the entrance hall when a voice from a grand staircase called out to them.

heroicaquest148-marquislowcraft.jpg
"Welcome to Castle Goetia, honored guests! I am Marquis Lowcraft, the master of this humble house. How may I help you?"

The marquis descended the stairs accompanied by a few sullen guards. His eyes had a mad gleam in them, and he swung a chalice filled with red wine. He moved with a twitch, and cracked his neck a couple of times.

"Oh, I do apologize for the weather! It has been absolutely dour as of late. Otherwise things are just fine and dandy in our lovely little town. How nice of you to have paid a visit at this hour! Would you care to join us later tonight for a feast?"

"Ehem... I do not know if you have noticed but your city seems rather empty. Where are all the people? And who would be joining us at this feast?"

Hybros looks around to take stock of the room. He tried to determine what was at the top of the staircase.
