x105Black Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Just about everything in the last few posts should not be considered viable for LEGO Ideas. Quote
StarWars8Spoiler Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) Looks even worse than the 2009 version: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/149972 At least that one actually HAS an interior. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/150331 The concept on this one is actually really good, but the build itself is overly-simple and too bland. anothergol Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 If Lego rejected all pictures of the LDD using those ugly built-in backgrounds, I think that would filter a big part of the crap. Funny how their rules state that a picture of the LDD is ok with the background scenery, but not with the grid, while the grid isn't as ugly. Quote
x105Black Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I agree that the grid is better looking than the scenery, but I don't think that LEGO needs to reject all LDD projects with the scenery. Quote
anothergol Posted August 11, 2016 Author Posted August 11, 2016 But have you seen even just 1 that wasn't crap? Quote

legobagel Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/149670 Here's another one from the underage YouTuber. And talk about self promotion... Correct me if I'm wrong, but a project like that by the name CakePieMuffin probably won't have a comment by *cakeandpiefan* saying "Nice set! I can totally see this being part of the mighty micros!" All the user has done was support that project. Someone made a second account... Quote
x105Black Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 But have you seen even just 1 that wasn't crap? That's not the point. The point is that not all projects using the LDD backgrounds are inherently crap. Quote

anothergol Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 That's not the point. The point is that not all projects using the LDD backgrounds are inherently crap. if you've invested enough time in a MOC, you're not gonna make a crap screen capture of it in the LDD Quote
x105Black Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 if you've invested enough time in a MOC, you're not gonna make a crap screen capture of it in the LDD You'll take the best screen capture you're capable of, even if it includes the LDD backgrounds. Not everyone is computer savvy enough to know about and use the various rendering programs for LDD. Quote
anothergol Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Bluerender requires no knowledge, while the LDD takes time to master. You only have to know that Bluerender exists, and those who take crap screenshots of their crap builds don't know about Bluerender because they don't care. Quote

Not everyone was born knowing Bluerender exists. And not everyone who doesn't know about doesn't care. Lots of people care about making good-looking renderings, but honestly just haven't the faintest idea of how to go about them. Quote
x105Black Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 And people building good ideas in LDD are more concerned with creating a good looking model than they are about learning about Bluerender. I just disagree that all projects using LDD backgrounds are bad simply on the basis that they used an LDD background. Quote

It's not very well advertised, and only well known in the Eurobricks community. Quote
Aethersprite Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Just stumbled on this thread. Wow, that Sphinx takes the cake. I brush aside most of these IDEAS projects as kids' projects, but the Sphinx is an obvious troll. Got me a good laugh, but ugh. Quote

x105Black Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I brush aside most of these IDEAS projects as kids' projects Kids should not be contributing projects to LEGO Ideas. That is, in itself, a big problem. But yeah, I agree with the rest of your post. Quote

AFOLguy1970 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 The giant minifig is actually not too bad of an idea. If the hands could be rounded out and the eyes fixed, that would be half the battle right there. A "macrofig" done well would probably make a good display piece. Quote

Indeed, they actually did a set like that back in 2000. They're probably due for another. Quote

Fine, but wake me up the day you will see anything remotely good on a screenshot of the LDD with those backgrounds Indeed, they actually did a set like that back in 2000. They're probably due for another. Lego made one this year. And that's the difference between these, which are hardly "ideas", it's the execution: Quote
StarWars8Spoiler Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Random printed tiles, terrible proportions, and terrible cockpit. User says it's part of a his own theme, which isn't allowed under LEGO Ideas rules. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/150621 The design on this one isn't really all that bad, but the way it's built would make the actual set extremely fragile, because so many of those leaves would be prone to breaking off with the slightest breath. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/150670 EDIT: 200th post!
