Dreadredbeard Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Hi everyone, I recently got back into Technic and I wanted to look into making a tram system similar to a toy I had as a child: The system ran on a cable very similar to what you load into a gardening edging tool (weed-wacker), and had tracks that allowed it to change angles. My thought is to use the same type of cable, and maybe use one of these: with some sort of connection to a motor and battery box hanging below. Couple concerns: How could I make this go around corners if I try to do this with 100% lego? Am I going to have issues with the wheel slipping on the line? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Saberwing40k Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 This project sounds plenty feasible, there's actually a topic on this forum for somebody who is making a full cable car system. Going around corners might be a bit difficult, but would be done if you build a rigid track for those corners, and have the string between those pieces. This sounds like fun, I look forward to seeing more. Quote
Kman860 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Wasn't there a creator set similar to this idea, with a monkey on a string or something like that? Which means I'm sure this could be done. Quote
Modelmaker Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) set 4090 motion madness http://alpha.brickli...ge?S=4090-1#T=I Much deeper groove in the tyre in that set than the technic piece Edited May 2, 2016 by Modelmaker Quote
tkatt Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 ^Yes, and it was motorized.http://brickset.com/sets/4094-1/Motor-Movers Quote
Kman860 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Yeah, that's what I was thinking of, but now I see it didn't have a wheel. Quote
Modelmaker Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I only knew about the wheel because i found one in a bulk lot that i bought and was only reserching it on bricklink today Quote
Saberwing40k Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I found the topic for the other ropeway, , but your approach looks to be different. As it turns out, the toy you are replicating uses tracks to go around corners as well: Quote
Modelmaker Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I also remember building a cable car from technic when i was younger, It ran from my bedroom to the treehouse for a whole summer. I was a slightly moddified version of the instructions found in the technic ideas book 8889 page 111 http://lego.brickinstructions.com/en/lego_instructions/set/8889/rb No idea how to make it turn corners though Quote
Modelmaker Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Just read the post Saberwing40k linked to, that guy wins at lego. copy him for the win Quote
