I bought myself some transparent 1x1 plates (medium blue and dark blue) at a lego store recently - now I am trying to figure out which baseplates to use in order to get the best effect. Which color would you suggest? Bright blue? Medium Azure? I even thought about reddish brown...

That depends, what kind of water do you want to create?

A nice blue sea, I would use Blue, and near the shore line medium azure with a thin line off white.

Muddy canal, tan, brown or bley.

Swamp, dark green

etc.

Thanks!

I was playing around yesterday with it a little bit and was kinda amazed how the effect changes when you use different backgrounds - makes the whole thing even more complicated than I thought - having lots of options is great

I would agree that breaking up the color helps a lot with the overall look. You see the same thing with forest terrain - when people use one shade of green, it does get the effect, but when people use multiple shades of green and throw in other random colors, it changes things drastically.

I would recommend different shades of blue and maybe even some varying sections, like a shoreline or rocky outcrops to help break up the blue and give it more action.

Thanks for the tip!

I will use light blue tr plates for the shoreline and dark blue for everything else - hopefully I will suffer it through and finally present something on this forum... usually things get too complicated or I dont like what I see and then I stop :(
