hollisbrick Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) Ok guys after reading a thread Grevious's thread about lego (and search for a topic like this) i was wondering what the best your best year for lego? whether it be the quality was better or because it was a good child hood experiance ect. Now I know that there night of been a topic like this but i couldnt find any and if they did i bet they didnt have a fancy poll like this one anyway guys after about a week of this i'll close then we'll norrow it down to the best year of lego, so happy voting! EDIT: yay the poll works! My best year is probly this year, mainly because i came out of my dark ages this year and now looking at 2008 i dont think i'll go into the dark ages for a while *y* Edited December 14, 2007 by hollisbrick Quote
gylman Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 It was between the 1980's (peak of castle) and 1990's (peak of Technic) for me. Airtech claw rig was released 1992. In the end 1990's got because you could still get Black Monarch, Forestmen, in the early 1990's and the Royal Knights were OK in the mid-1990's. Paradisa was in the 1990's and I love those sets. And Adventurers began in the 1990s. So really it wasn't close. 1990's. No doubt all the Star Wars fans will dominate the poll and vote for the current decade..... sigh. Newbies... EDIT: Also from the 1990's are most of the great pirate sets (SBS 1989, SES 1993). So, the pirates fans that live in their own little enclave there at Piratebricks.com really have to vote for the 1990's. Quote
Batbrick Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) So really it wasn't close. 1990's.No doubt all the Star Wars fans will dominate the poll and vote for the current decade..... sigh. Newbies... _________ Although I have only just began collecting lego as a hobby, I have collected lego all my life on and off. So even though I am a newbie pretty much, I agree with you in saying that 1990's were the best. There a lot of people comparing the new indy sets to the adventurer ones. The indy sets, while great, have nothing, I repeat NOTHING on the Pharoah's tomb or Dragon Fortress EDIT: And I AM aware of when dragon fortress came out, I just put that in there because they are part of the same line. Clearly Batbrick's mind has turned to mush! *wacko* Edited December 14, 2007 by Batbrick Quote
zz-80 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Voted for the 80s *y* as all sets over the whole TLC range were pretty decent. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 14, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 14, 2007 The 80's still is the best period for me. Lego released their best castle and space sets ever. And in '89 we got the first wave of pirate sets (including the Black Seas Barracuda). 80's all the way! Quote
maiq the liar Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Well, after snooping around on peeron, i WOULD say the '80s, but...I wasn't born yet. I missed the NES, the C64, Windows 1.0 AND the town theme's first golden age...So the most i can do is hope for another one, which they are heading towards. Quote
RupeeClock Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 voted for the 90's because then the sets were getting modern in a cool way. Quote
Jipay Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I voted for the 90s, no brainer for me : pirates, ice planet, space police The current decade came close second Quote
gylman Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 It does not necessarily follow that because the 90's were the best decade (obviously), the best year occurred in this decade. A case can be made that the best single year was this year (CC, UCS MF, revival of castle, etc). This is a fun poll Hollisbrick. I am not sure if a year by year poll would be as meaningful. Quote
Aredhel Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I voted for the 80ies though I really did like much of the 2000-2008 too! Especial the Harry Potter sets and the new Castle, Indy, etc... -Aredhel Quote
Ickelpete Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I have to vote for the 70's as that is when Technic started and I did not buy any lego between 1980-2000 Quote
xwingyoda Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 I voted for the years 2000's Sure I loved the 80's (was in may dark ages after untill 2004) but I voted mainly for the theme that got me out of my dark ages: SW ;-) There are so many sweet sets and themes that I had to vote for the 2000's !! And the newest Castle and Indy can only make my choice clearer and stronger ;-) *yoda* Quote
RememberTheLittleGuy Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I voted for the year 2000-2008, but I go for the 1990's. Picking 2000-2008 was mainly because of the 2008 LEGO sets, how to look more advance and having an outstanding performance. I'm even going to wait until January before I go and get my Chirstmas present :-/ . Quote
Brick Miner Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 undoubtable the best decade was the 90's... adventurers, islanders, and of course wild west... the sets really started to get some personality in the 90's. however, i think the best single year is 2007 (too bad the rest of the 2000's sucked ;-) ). - BM Quote
hollisbrick Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 my second is the 90's there was the start of the SW saga, the ninja's *wub* , the fright knights ect Quote
AgentRick Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I voted 80's, as they had some really great town sets then (Main Street, Lights and sound, Metro Park & Service Tower, Victory Lap Raceway, A really good hospital, and much more) using simple brick techniques and very little slopes and very little SNOT techniques. a very outstanding feat I must say! Quote
Matn Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I voted for the 00's. Harry Potter, Star Wars, the new City and Castle sets and so on. The 90's were also nice with Western and Castle. Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 80's. Castle was great back then, the space sets (blacktron) were better than they are now, the pirate sets started and I love BSB. And the nifty little town sets, with the 4 wide cars. *wub* Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I'd have to go with the 90's. With classic castle, pirates, western, ninja and adventurers, where can you go wrong? *wub* However, if lego makes sets even better than 2007-8, my answer may change to the 00's (probably not though :-D ) Quote
SirNadroj Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I would have said late 80's, early 90's, so I went with 90's. After 2008: :-X ! Literally. Horrible, horrible stuff. It's only now that they're realizing their mistakes. Quote
Batbrick Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I would have said late 80's, early 90's, so I went with 90's. After 2008: :-X ! Literally. Horrible, horrible stuff. UFO Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 (edited) 1990's. We got Throwbots (Slizers), Insectoids, UFO, and so many oter super mega awesome Space things. Oh, and Ninjas too. Edited December 16, 2007 by UFO Quote
mutley777 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Well after coming out of my dark age in 99 it has to be the 00's for me. The last few years have seen so many great set sets that i have found it so hard to stick to my main theme (star wars if didn't know :-D ). The creator sets have tempted me to by a few of them and the city line with the construction, the docks and so many great houses has never look so good. I know i fit glyman's statement about the star wars fans pefectly :-P , but for me the lego line has never looked stronger than now! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I'd say the 90's! 9V, the metroliner, more pirate sets, islanders and lots of other cool sets! The 80's came as a close second. Quote
lukeiamyourfather Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I voted the 2000's becuase 65% of my stuff is newer sets but it was a close one with the 90's *vader* Quote
