Need help with my new project

Calling on the supreme knowledge of my fellow EBers.

I've finally committed myself to spending some time MOCing. Not sure what time I have spare, but I'll fit it in somehow.

Now, I don't know if this is the correct place, it being a predominantly MOC-question. If not, then I apologise and accept that the thread will be moved. However, I'm looking for help from other Star Wars fans.

Firstly, the idea. I'm not a MOC expert, so I'm MODing rather than MOCing. I'm taking the most recent version of the system-scale X-Wing and making it a Stealth X. I'm doing this by sourcing the parts from Bricklink using the inventory on Peeron. I'm changing all white to black, leaving all light grey/bley light grey/bley and changing anything else to dark grey.

I'm going to try to make it a little smaller, since the Stealth X is apparently a little smaller. Maybe two studs length-wise and two studs width-wise. I'm going to try to make it a little more sleek. More curvy, just teh Stealth X has less pronounced angles than the X-Wing.

I'm going to try to add in some sort of projectile - Shadow Bombs.

The whole thing could be a continual work in progress.

Problem 1: colours. I'm struggling to translate the colours described by Peeron into meaningful colours on Bricklink. Peeron describes Light- medium- and dark stone. How do these translate to grey/bley?

Problem 2: Pilot and droid. ho do I use. I'm thinking Luke and R2. I already have a spare R2. I could use hsi Final Duel body and find and older-person's head. Or should he be in flight suit? Or I coudl be a little more adventurous. I'm thinking Jaina: appropaite body (Jedi robes or flight suit) and female head ith long brown hair. The Droid, "Sneaker" can be green printed head on red printed body. She'll need a purple lightsaber.

What does everything think, and can you help, please?

Why not use the inventory page (on BL) from the set you are moding that way you can change the parts with the link for each part to the colour you are after. If it is the 6212 x-wing you are working from here is a quick Link.

First, I want to point this out!

This color chart lists the Bricklink names, the offical Lego names, as well as LDraw names. It has saved my butt afew times!!

Second to answers your questions,

Peeron name = BL name = Lego name

DkStone = Dark Bluish Gray = Dark Stone Gray

MdStone = Light Bluish Gray = Medium Stone Gray

LtStone = Very Light Bluish Gray = Light Stone Gray

As for Luke and R2. As long as your going for the Black themed X-Wing. I would use R2-D5 for the Astromech.

And for Luke I would use either a Shadowtrooper body with Luke head and X-Wing helmet. Maybe switch the arms to gray with black hands, maybe switch the hips aswell. Or maybe a TIE Pilot body with the same head, helmet, and switch the arms and hips too.

I'm thinking you should stick with Luke and Artoo because Stealth Xs use the R9 series Astromech droids, and I really can't think of a good or clean way to modify the existing R2 series parts into an R9. Fortunately, R2-D2 was modified internally to be able to interface with the XJ/StealthX fighters, so that solves that.

And putting Luke's head on a TIE pilot body and finding him a black helmet would work just fine I think.

I'm working on Jaina. I've sourced a Y-Wing minifug for his body. I'll use a Leia head (since Leia's her mother, it should work). I plan on a purple lightsaber. I'll get an unmarked helmet.

Now, hair: which is more appropriate:

Update:

Making slow progress, entirely due to the time it takes for parts to arrive. I could finished it weeks ago.

Today, some parts arrived. The Cocpit windscreen piece, of which there is one on the underside as well as the actual cockpit. I'd ordered one in black for the underside. A white one arrived. On checking I discovered that it was my error: I'd ordered white. On further checking on Peeron for how common it, it's not available in black at all. So I'm going with trans-black now.

Then I discovered that I'd not ordered enough of one part. I've just ordered them through Bricklink through a seller that I know dispatches quickly (A Minifig is for life...).

I'm also discovering that some of my mods arn't going to be possible at all, and some will be very fiddly.

On the upside, I'm impressed with my Jaina minifig.

I'm realising that MOCing or MODing isn't for me. Though I'll finish this project.
