Dorayaki Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) Good freakin' luck again; they don't like making playable toys of the Villains from their fairy tales...because girls don't like conflict and adventure and good vs. evil, y'see. Y'see? That sounds harsh . Well the truth is that girls do enjoy adventure sometimes and that's why there are Elves and Friends Jungle.Well again, that's back to the basic debate whether minidoll and minifigures could share a theme or have to conflict with each other. Now the Princess line is tricky: they don't have minifigures indeed but having any princess in the CMF line (if possible) could also waste a chance for more non-princess characters. I can understand the strategy that introducing Disney Villains in the CMF series so that kids can decide if they want to add them to Princess sets or not. Not a bad move, but if they're not the same type of figure, the visual issue would emerge (Jafar is shorter than Jasmine??? ). The perfect result is to make Princess's stay in their own theme and introduce minifigures versions in some sets, but not sure if that can happen anytime soon. While CMF series mean to introduce more diversitile molds, minidolls have really been lacking most molds (armors, kid's body) which minifigures already have for years, that means blind bags can help them out a lot. But not sure if CMD blind bag series do have a big market. Sadly, I don't think the original CMF collectors would have the same passion for CMD series at this point since LEGO don't really do a good job in advertising. Ultron Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I really doubt that they'll be mini dolls. That seems like a good way to make less money than they would if they were standard figs. Quote
barneynedward Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Screw the princesses! Give us Mickey and Friends. Also give us: Uncle Scrooge, Pete, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Fethry Duck, Ludwig Von Drake, Gladstone Gander, Gus Goose, Gyro Gearloose, etc. Altough Pete would have to be a big fig. Quote
legofreak86 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) I really doubt that they'll be mini dolls. That seems like a good way to make less money than they would if they were standard figs. I hope they won't be minidolls, minfigures are far better detailed and expressive, not to mention micro dolls are completely out of scale with minfigures. As much as there may be many Disney princesses in movies, Disney movies are popular amongst boys and girls. I would think Disney would not be pleased if Lego catered only to female fans with this line of figures considering they have always prided themselves on making films that appeal to both genders. The way I see it people who want the friends princess stuff they already have a line for that, I personally think that this should be separate from the friends subgenre and fit into the same sort of subgenre as the Simpsons figures, licensed figures. Disney has such a rich history of films past and present that could be portrayed in multiple waves. If they do go the minidoll route I have to say that would be a colossal missed opportunity, I have a sister who is obsessed with Disney but when I showed her the princess minidoll stuff she disliked the lack of real minifigures, however she was possibly ecstatic when I showed her the image circulating the internet of someone's proposed ideas for a figure line. Either way its not much of a loss for me if they go minidoll route, there are far more promising things planned for 2016 beyond a CMF line of Disney characters. Oky Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Yeaaaaah I have no clue what you're talking about. I rest my case. Only problems we start to hit is that the beast would probably have to be a big fig or specially molded as would samba/scar. True, he would be better as a bigfig, but I could see them doing him like they did the Monster Series Werewolf. The lions probably would have to be excluded though. And no, of course they wouldn't mix minidolls and minifigs. It's one or the other. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this project. As much as I would love to have some classic Disney characters in proper minifig form, their animated canon alone is huge and they never seem to know how to properly merchandise it. I'm worried that either the character selection will be stupid, or the figures will look horrible, or both. You want Hercules and Hades? Good freakin' luck; Disney doesn't even seem to remember that they made that movie. Ditto for almost anything animated that isn't Pixar and doesn't feature a Princess in a leading role. You figure at least we'll get Maleficent and Jafar to go with the Princess sets? Good freakin' luck again; they don't like making playable toys of the Villains from their fairy tales...because girls don't like conflict and adventure and good vs. evil, y'see. Y'see? Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine. While you are right that there doesn't seem to be many Disney toys outside of the Pixar and Princess stuff, why are you so pessimistic? So far TLG has done a great job with the CMFs, and even though the hugeness of the Simpsons heads is polarizing, you gotta admit that they were at least made well for what they are. So how about having some faith in our favorite toy company? Would these be minifigures or mini dolls because the Princesses are minidolls? Sigh, I'm getting tired of this argument. Minidolls are only used in products aimed at little girls. CMFs are usually aimed at all ages and genders. Why would these be any different? And why would they want to rehash the minidolls? That would just encourage people not to buy the Disney Princess sets and to just buy the blind bags instead. It would make much more sense to make them minifigs as that would offer something new and appeal to everyone. Not to mention that there are many characters that would just not work as minidolls. Is this (a blind-bagged Disney figure line, whether minifigures or minidolls) definitely happening? Has there been anything other than that suspiciously-dated initial report to go on? Nope. This is all pure speculation based on J2G's word who confirmed that he was serious about it over a month ago. For all we know, this could all still turn out to be the world's longest running April Fools joke, but J2G has never been wrong so far, so I hope not. Who knows, maybe this rumor of a Dinsey CMF line is referring to the Palace Pets sets. Quote

dmarvin Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 There are just far too many directions TLG could take this. They could go classic Disney feature animated, modern classic feature animated, digital feature animated/Pixar, classic Disney shorts animated, classic Disney live action animated, a mix of everything, CMF vs CMD, heroes or villains, etc. This could go on for 5 series and they still wouldn't make everyone happy, not even close. All I have to say to TLG is "good luck with this one; I'll probably buy whatever you release." Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 The only figure I'm sure is in there is Mickey Mouse. Otherwise, it could be anyone. Quote
Agent 86 Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I hope that this Disney CMF series, if it even eventuates, is minifigures and not minidolls. The "Forest Maiden" CMF clearly indicates that Disney Princesses (i.e. Merida from Brave) can be easily and authentically translated into minifigure form. As for wishlists, well mine would include: Uncle Scrooge, Launchpad, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Aladdin, Ariel, Belle, Mulan, Mr Incredible, Mrs Incredible, Ursula, Maleficent and basically everyone else! Quote
8BrickMario Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'd love another chance to get Ariel (and her hair) cheaply. I'd expect Mickey and Minnie, Snow White, Woody and/or Buzz, and a few more DAC and Pixar characters Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 So I guess this means we won't be getting Bigfig Sulley or Wreck-It-Ralph... We never get big figs in minifigures series. Don't expect anyone who's big like them in the Disney series. Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 My guess is minifigs with moulded heads just like the Simpsons theme. Quote
JaseTJ Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Sully would do fine as a Minifigure anyways. He's of comparable size to the Yeti or Bigfoot, both of whom we've received minifigs of now. Quote
Huigberts Builds Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) Wow I've been gone for a day and this thread exploded with new comments XD. Screw the princesses! I totally agree with you, the princesses has to stay to the friends side of Lego (I might reconsider that if they finally stop focusing on just the princesses like every toy franchise does and finally give the villains their time in the spotlight, but looking at the movies Disney is making this could turn out positive). The classic Disney characters (mickey and friends) are definitely on top of my wishlist. After them I would go with characters from movies like lilo and stitch. I would also like to see some more pixar figures, but since Lego already made sets of the most popular Pixar movie (toy story) and some other big ones (cars) this might not happen anymore. About pete, you're right he probably wouldn't fit as an normal figure but the big fig moulds wouldn't be right for him too. There actually needs to be a mold between big and normal. For know I'll go with normal since they won't do big figures for cmf series. Edited August 19, 2015 by Huigberts Builds Quote

I agree, checking how the scaling of Sully to other Disney characters......it's pretty dam close with the Yeti minifig. But we don't know if it's classic Disney, say Mickey and Donald or present Disney, say Sully and Mike ? Quote

Also not sure if it's been said already but do you guys think we could be seeing the return of the longer legs used by Woody and Jessie? Yes. Eventually, definitely, since if nothing else, I expect LEGO to make sets for Toy Story 4 a couple years from now. No telling whether they'll ever be used for any other characters at all, much less anytime before Toy Story 4 comes out, but you never know. Quote
Karalora Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Well, aren't you a ray of sunshine. I do my best. I may be a bit grumpy with Disney right now due to the "Star Wars Land" plans for Disneyland. It's not TLG I don't trust...it's Disney. They hold the Lion King's share of the power in any deal they broker with another company and they're so unbelievably finicky about the way they market their characters. The minifig/minidoll divide with Princess just places further restrictions on which animated characters we could realistically expect to see in something like this. Quote
Oky Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Altough Pete would have to be a big fig. I don't really agree with you there. I mean, he's kinda big, but not THAT big. I think he would be fine as a minifig, but I don't think they would make him. As much as I love the regular CMFs, if this doesn't turn out to be true I will probably die a little. Yeah, this is the 2016 rumor that I'm currently most excited for as well, but unfortunately it's also the most unfounded one, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. I'd expect Mickey and Minnie, Snow White, Woody and/or Buzz, and a few more DAC and Pixar characters I don't think they would rehash Woody and Buzz unless they are new variations, but I can't think of any except for different facial expressions. Maybe the anti-grav belt version of Buzz, but I doubt it. These will be minifigures, not minidolls. It's the Collectable MINIFIGURES theme. It's even in the name of the thread: LEGO Minifigures - Disney Series (2016). Just2good himself said "minifigures" in the first post. Exactly. I don't know how much clearer you can be than that. Sully would do fine as a Minifigure anyways. He's of comparable size to the Yeti or Bigfoot, both of whom we've received minifigs of now. Agreed. He doesn't need to be in scale with the rest of the figs. He could have the Lizard Suit Guy's tail and a new head mold. Same goes for small characters like Tinkerbell. Not sure how they would do Mike, though, considering his shape... Quote
gedren_y Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 About the Woody legs: I believe Disney owns the rights to that specific mold set. That's why it hasn't been seen in anything else. The baldric that was made for PotC seems to be in the same boat, but got use in another Disney property, The Lone Ranger. This CMF line may actually see the return of the long legs for some taller Disney characters, like Goofy, Clarabelle and possibly Mortimer. For Pete, there is always the possibility of a belly mold. Sully could be done with a combination of long legs, tail, and head/body mold. He might fit, and just be quite bulky like Medusa was. Quote
