carnage717 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I've always loved the Hyper-drive Ring but I could not stand the interceptor that came with it. It was flimsy and broke at the drop of the hat. Since I have been making new interceptor such as the Vader and Mace Windu Interceptor I figured I might as as well go ahead and retire the flimsy Interceptor back to its bag and replace with a custom 75135 Interceptor. If you have seen my other interceptors I fixed the cockpit, front lower area to cover up the technic holes. filled in the back to use up some of the empty space and redid the bottom of the interceptor filling in the empty spaces there and removing the spring missiles. I've also added a new fix to the 75135 and that's removing the 1x8 colored tile on top with the sticker on it and replacing it with 1x4 tile of the same color and then adding a 1/4 plate on the lower wing to make it look similar to the 75038 Interceptor. I also plan on going back and changing all my interceptor with this fix. For this one I had to a little bit further on the bottom, adding the Technic pieces needed for the Interceptor to dock with the hyper-drive ring. As always I added some custom sticker to the wing to give it a little more detail and I also am working on a custom R4-G9 Astromech to fit in astromech slot (which was also lowered). I have the sticker/decal set done for R4-G9, I'm just waiting on some parts from Bricklink. Enjoy the pics. Quote
shrak Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 you must of not connected the pieces tightly together Cause i own it and nothing ever falls off for me. But none the less good job at taking the problem into your own hands and fixing it. Quote

shrak Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 I added extra plates where they were needed. Your new one for it looks good I honestly don't like the new ones that LEGO makes now though cause well............. Not all of the droids can actually be removed from the ship and are built into the ship like with Obi-wan's star fighter from 2. Quote
atlas Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) Those stickers on the outer surface of the s foils are superb. How did you make them? I've also been building some Eta-2s on and off for about a year but the limited palette of dk blue has kind of stopped my work on Obi-Wan's ship from Utapau. I've been thinking of ways to achieve a nice sticker for the wings and yours looks great. Edited March 28, 2016 by atlas Quote

I've been thinking of ways to achieve a nice sticker for the wings and yours looks great. I took the sticker sheet from the 75135 set, scanned it and dropped it into photoshop. I changed all the maroon to what ever color I'm using for wings and then cleaned up every sticker on the sheet, making the lines crisper and more defined. Then I just print them out on glossy photo paper and cut them out to fit. It took me quite awhile on the first one cleaning the stickers up after that I just have to change the color palate to suit my needs. Quote
atlas Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Do you know if it's possible to produce a sticker sheet as it would come in a set? Like printing a design onto the sticker material Quote

Like printing a design onto the sticker material don't think you can as I have looked into sticker sheets before and it is just one solid piece of paper to get the individual easy to peel sheets like lego does you would have to print them cut them out and then place them on another sheet. carnage717 Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Do you know if it's possible to produce a sticker sheet as it would come in a set? Like printing a design onto the sticker material That sticker photo paper I printed these on is pretty good. It doesnt smudge when handled and takes ink pretty good with the exception of black ink, when you print large sections of black on the paper it doesn't come out to good. I think i has more to do with the quality of the ink than the paper though. As far as getting die cut easy to take off stickers there is just now way to do it for personal use. For me I don't mind a little extra cutting if it means I can create my own sticker from scratch or even a scan. For example I can create my own custom mini figure stickers from scratch or re print a sticker sheet from set I have bought (I normally scan every sticker sheet for every set I have ever bought before applying it to my lego creation) Quote

Only Sinner Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 This is a huge improvement over the original. Too bad TLG never opted to revisit this set. Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 A wonderful modification of one of the more unique sets to come out of the Star Wars line. A+! Quote
Jackad7 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hey, what pieces did you add on to the ring and which pieces to the actual interceptor? I just got mine in the mail and wanted to update it. Thanks! Quote

I just got mine in the mail and wanted to update it. Thanks! The ring section is untouched, its exactly as its assembled in the instructions. The Interceptor is a recolored 75135 interceptor. If you have a 75135 and want to add it to your ring I can take a couple of pictured to the bottom for you to see what I modded. Quote
