www.brickseas.com

submit your builds

Please help out and be a part of it by adding your builds!

What does it provide?

* an index for all builds made in BoBS

* various ways to display the builds (e.g. by city, by TC, by member, ...)

* a structure for islands, cities, challenges, ...

* a clickable map

* preview images and eurobricks links to all builds

What it does not yet provide:

* full-size images of any builds (only 120x100 previews)

* any builds posted after Feb 01 2016

* every tiny bit of information on everything (e.g. it lacks details about TCs)

* every possible way to view the data

* correct information on all builds (e.g. license type)

What will follow?

* data for February and March

* more views on data (e.g. all builds a sigfig appears in)

* the things you suggest!

Is it fine with the leadership?

* I have been in contact with Ska, he is absolutely fine with it

How do I complain?

* In case you don't want to see your builds there: just let me know

* in case you don't like the pics I used for your build: Just send me another one (120x100 Px), tell me which build it is, and I will replace it

How can I help?

* if you find any errors: Please use the Feedback Form

* if you have any suggestions for future improvements of any kind: Please use the Feedback Form (same one)

* you may also PM me or leave a message in this thread, but the feedback Form makes it easier for me to process everything

* I really appreciate any feedback!

It's so sad that February and March are missing - can I add builds?

* YES!

* there is an upload area (hidden and password protected) which provides a rather easy way to upload builds

* however if some of you are willing to help me adding more builds please PM me and I will provide you access and explain how it works

* I might make it public at some point, but for now I don't want to risk messing it up

* however I would be super happy if some of you are willing to help out!

This total index is AWESOME!!! But it needs maintenance (mostly for uploading newer builds, new builders etc). Overall i love the passion and work hours behind this supplementary index site!!

I guess BoBS Lords can give out a monthly DB salary to "volunteer" people maintaining this. Hopefully it will be discussed.

Great work, and a truly handy oversight tool!

Might I pass on some `corrections` from my side?

The Chocolate Island has been renamed by the Crown to Cocovia officially

I myself am a member of MAESTRO

And Quinnsville currently has a trade value of 40 as per 12 / 03

Thanks, I've fixed that.

Please note again:

All builds posted after Feb 01 are not yet there!

Excellent! Great initiative. I have struggled finding old threads, and it is already cumbersome to read through all the pages. This should alleviate that pirate_satisfied.gif Thank you!

This is a fantastic initiative! thumbup.gifthumbup.gif I'm not sure if there is already such a system for GoH, but if not, man... I'd love to have one similar to this default_wubnew.gif

Great intiative! Since I'm not keeping up with the inflow of builds (and I assume that goes for other builders with limited time and especially newcomers later), some way of keeping track of them is vital in the long run.

Two thoughts after seeing the failure with the Guilds of Histoica wiki:

- This system must be easy to run and administer to keep updated. Some way for the builders to enter the builds themselves is good, but for consistency maybe someone (one from each land?) should be responsible to enter all builds reported in the freebuild thread?

- Don't burden the system with too many fancy interface solutions which will get hard to keep up in the long run. Keep it simple and functional!

I fear GoH is `to far into` after the years it has been running to make making an index a feasible thing...

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

regarding GoH:

That's how I got the idea in the first place. When I started over at GoH it was really, really hard to get into it. Especially I didn't have any way to check the style of a region/city to keep my builds consistent.

Adapting the code behind brickseas.com for GoH would definitely be possible. However as Tomsche said adding all the data is the real deal there. If there are some people who can convince me of their motivation to add data to such an index, I'd definitely be willing to adapt the site to GoH-needs.

@Gideon:

Are there already too many fancy interaces in your opinion?

Updating data:

I tried to keep adding builds as simple as possible. Here are screenshots of the upload-fields:

http://brickseas.com/random/in1.PNG

http://brickseas.com/random/in2.PNG

Including the creation and addition of the image, adding a build should take 2-3 minutes on average once you get the hang of it; some are quicker (e.g. challenge entries), some take longer (e.g. a licensed build in a city with many newly introduced characters).

I'd love to have some people helping me out with this.

Great initiative, Elostirion.

Would it be possible to let everyone upload their own builds. A few admins from each factions could then be tasked with approving the builds, before they become active on the page?

(I have no clue how these things work - and it might not be easy to code, but it would probably make management and updating much easier pirate_blush.gif )

Great initiative !

That is exactly the best way to help newcomers to see what is built and a real help to follow the level of a settlement !

I think, me too, that GOH need an index like that but I think it would be hard to create...

So hats off sir ! Great job !

Updates

* all issues sent to me have been fixed

* some new builds have been added

* I added the MTF as a new challenge

* Uploading builds yourself is now possible

* added some icons to the map

Submitting your own builds

1. Use this link: http://brickseas.com/upload.php or click on the "cloud"-icon on the clickable map.

2. Select yourself

3. Check if the MOC you want to add is already there at the bottom

4. Add a new MOC by at least providing the title of the build and the link. Please select the correct type as well (freebuild, licensed, ship, challenge, ...)

5. Fill out the other information as it fits (shipsize for a house makes as little sense as having a "Copper Dockyard" or sth.).

6. Select the month in which you have posted the build in the board.

7. Optional: Mention the sigfigs/characters that are visible in the build (up to ten possible currently, please message me if more are required, I would add them manually). Please note: Add new sigfigs before adding the MOC.

8. Optional: Upload a 120x100 Px preview-image of the MOC as a .jpg file. (naming is up to you, will be renamed at upload)

9. Click Submit.

Note: If a build serves two purposes (e.g. challenge entry & ship-license) please add it twice.

Messing up

Please don't hesitate to add your builds. If sth. goes wrong just message me and I will fix it (or upload again and I will delete the first attempt). Don't worry!

If you guys mess up on purpose (!) I will activate the approval feature (then I will have to approve every future upload before it is visible).

Currently all builds will be visible immediately.

Adding builds from other people

If you feel like adding e.g. all missing builds for the "Musicians Talent Fair" - pleas go ahead!

I won't stop you. ;-)

Got halfway through uploading my builds (sans preview images) before noticing the "level" drop-down. Doh. And the first one I did notice it on, I only spotted the spelling mistake in the title after submitting the build. PlusDoh.
