Brick Miner Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 the only ghost town i've been to is jerome in AZ... it's really a strange town because it's built right in the side of a mountain, and you have to drive up a bunch of loops and curves to get there. i dug out a couple post cards i picked up, one is very cool and shows off the town hotel/saloon. currently, the town has experienced a second life, and is a thriving art community... so it's no longer a ghost town, but still has the ghost town history and the city promotes the tourism ;-) - BM Quote
Athos Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 This site has a fairly extensive list of Ghost Towns. I think Ghost-Towning is going to be my new weekend activity, once I get a 4WD. I went and checked out one of the towns listed. It was called Unionville and its in North Central Nevada. And while the pictures from that website look pretty cool, most everything is hidden away behind fences with menacing "Private Property" signs. I've tried some of the other towns too, but the directions were poor or their idea of two-wheel drive roads, is significantly different from mine. I'll have to see if I can locate some pictures from other spots I've been to. Definately want to check out Bodie and Rhyolite. Steve Quote

I don't know much about Bodie, but I read a bit about Rhyolite after visiting Death Valley. I'd also like to see some of the old towns in Arizona. I think it would be neat to go prospecting with a metal detector. - with my luck, I'd probably just find some old tin cans. You should build some MOCs related to the hobby. Here's a few pictures of Shoshone near Death Valley. It's not really a ghost town, but it's got some great old artifacts: I have this thing for old mining cars. and I really like the old gas pumps. Athos Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Here are some ghost towns I've encountered: Keys Ranch, in Joshua Tree National Park. The Lost Horse Mine, also in Joshua Tree, at the end of a 2 mile trail. and Pioneertown, about five miles north of Yucca Valley, CA. They are all relatively easy to find via a google search and you can read a bit about them on my blog and I can post more pictures, if you're interested. Steve Quote
cyclone501 Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 ABQ here is not a ghost town, but we have our fare share of ghosts. For instance, my old elementary school was allegedly built over a civil war graveyard. Quote
maiq the liar Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Well, for a different type of ghost town, there is Prypiat, a town that was abandoned after the chernobyl incident. Quote
