Buddy010702 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I am redesigning my Case Steiger that I had build a while ago. (link: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=117699&hl=%2Bcase+%2Bsteiger) but I want to make the middle area more compact. The reason for this is for more functions, the battery box can no longer go in the front, and needs to be in the middle, but takes up to much space so the model can't steer. I need the turning to connect to a turntable (for articulation in the back) as well as the drive shaft going through the middle of the turntable. Is there any way to use mini LA's? Or is there some other way. I am using the normal Lego wheel hubs also, which take up some space. Anyone got ideas? Again, is there a way to use mini LA's? (I haven't found a way that works yet.) Ideas? Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) This is a case Steiger that I built a few years ago. It was built before the mini-LAs came out, so it uses the larger LAs. It's not the greatest moc, but it might give you some ideas. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=56275 The portal hubs take up some space, so you may be better off just using normal hubs. It might free up some space. Edited February 28, 2016 by dhc6twinotter Quote
Jurss Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Maybe use direct wormgear, or something like lifting mechanism in http://brickset.com/sets/42032-1/Compact-Tracked-Loader Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 You could try something like the 8459 wheel loader, which made use of a fixed axle going through a perpendicular connection which was driven by a free rotating gear wheel on another axle.I think this is how you made the steering work in your older version but you used a large turntable. If you could implement a similar approach (you would not need to use a turntable) to the 8459 wheel loader then you could perhaps use bevel gears/worm gear to connect the steering to to a drive shaft to power the steering.
