Hi everyone its me again, there hasn't been too much action on this form for quite some time now so i thought maybe we should get some voting going and give reasons why you think what ever classic pirate set is the best classic pirate set. I will start us off by saying the Imperial Armada was the best set from that era because it is a beautiful ship and it introduced the spanish fleet.

Hard to pin it down to just one, been so many great sets. But as far as ships go; BSB, SES, and 2010 IFS stand out As the 3 best (not counting POTC ships). As far as forts go; RIR, ITP, and EF are easily the best three there. Honestly you could own just the things I mentioned here, and your collection would be brilliant. Some of the smaller ships and forts are nice too, but these are the cream of the crop.

The El Dorado Fort is a very solid set. A base for the good guys and a cool fort all around. The color scene and details are great and there us plenty play features. By itself if might be a little dull but paired with more soldiers and some pirates to fight it has lots of fun to it.

Probably the most obvious one but I would say the single best set was 6285 Black Seas Barracuda.

It was part of the original Pirates launch line in 1989 and the biggest set. 8 minifigures including Captain Redbeard and the female pirate. A fully enclosed but accessible cabin and storage areas.

Also it's the most iconic symbol of being a pirate all encapsulated in one set. Captain Redbeard with his eyepatch, wooden leg and parrot sailing a galleon flying the Jolly Roger with a cargo of gold coins!! You can't get any more "piratey" than that!!!!
