Scala Elements in a Non Scala MOC?

  1. 1. Is the usage of scala elements in a non-scala MOC legal?

    • Of course! It is LEGO, isn't it?

    • No way! There is too big of a size difference!

    • It depends on the element! Duh!

I agree with *yoda* ! *y*

How can anyone use this?

That's a great concept for a contest! :-$

I would use it as the top of a modern skyscraper...

It is often a joy to see big or "unusable" parts being incorporated into MOCs, especially if they are used in ways that they were not intended. The guy who used fabuland roofs in a spaceship and him who used parts from planes in a air ship comes to mind *sweet*

Hooray! X-D Two people are already interested! :-D :-D :-D :-P I knew you'd be first in line *yoda* :-D :-P ;-) X-D

Great idea Lasse D! Unconventional parts usage specifically using crap pieces. It's a great idea and has a catchy title!! :-D

I think if any part appears under Dacta, Lego or Samsonite on the main peeron themes tree, it is elegible for use in a MOC. If you ban Scala (which appears in a lot of sets, like RPP) then where do you stop? Jack Stone - fine. Duplo - NO WAY! I love it! In a sentimental sort of way. I also like the way the spades can be given to Maxi-figs! ;-)

Would you ban the rubber band holders then?

Never! I am bound to find a cool way to feature those in a spaceship interior. I already used one here

8-| maybe that's it...the constant self-promotion. :-$

But has it not been done before on EB?

I'm pretty sure people mentioned it back when the space ship appeared. If it hasn't, then I'm all in for a competition. With my current luck using the bricks from the cement mixer on 7990, I'm sure I will get my megablocks beaten, but I'm also sure the process will be great fun... the process being before the beating :-P

Great contest idea ~ but it should be named after ME! :-P

wait a minute.... this is silly. :-D If you ask me using anything in an moc is 'legal' even if you want to use licoln logs :-X but ofcourse some things (like licoln logs) are stupid. I think it should be completely to the discretion of the builder and he will be appropriately commended or criticized for his work. But a thread like this shouldn't discourage anyone from building with whatever they want. I find it ironic that Dr.Sinister said he was turned off by that scala 'wall' piece when its supposed to be the back of a bench. Also I could think of a few uses for that highchair if it came in a different colour. Overall Scala is a stupid theme but finding uses for scala elements in systems moc's is quite clever.

Remember that "Legal" is being used in the context of accepted parts usage. That's it. In programming the word is used as well, and in that context it just means to do things within the accepted language rules. SirNadroj wasn't implying that he might go to jail over this.

oh sinner how you insult my inteligence. :-P I knew that! I even wrapped the word legal in quotation marks. :-| What I meant was that we shouldnt have some code of accepted part usage and mocers should be willing to take risks. If we have such a code, then people with good ideas might be discouraged to carry them out.

That was Holodoc, and how exactly is that ironic? Does Dr. Sinister or Holodoc have some sort of anti-wall-calling-bench past?

It was doc sinister who said "I took one look at the wall thingy, baby and highchair and that put me right off." but no they dont have such a history, its irionic because Dr.S decided that scala elements shouldnt be used in mocs, yet he found an alternative use for a scala element in writing his post.

But that was the entire point of this topic! Silly or not, as SirNadroj said later on;

Well, the reason I'm curious is that I've bought some scala things, but I'm a little apprehensive about using them in a MOC. But I guess almost everyone here doesn't care. *y*

Sure people can do what they want with Lego. If they want to stick it up their bum and call that a MOC that's their business. But SirNadroj wanted to know what Lego pieces we thought were legal. I made the point about the usage of the word "Legal" as with your Lincoln Logs example you were pretty much saying that anything is legal, Lego or not. That seemed so silly to me that I thought you must be using "Legal" in its literal sense. Now I am even more confused.

aha! Okay, that makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion... :-$

For me personally ecerthing that has stud compabilty ANDhas the same quality as official LEO is OK with me. For example the brickforge stuff is perfectly fine by me ,but MEGA Bloks isn't. I would use those oxford bricks without issues if I ever find some
