I was thinking (yes I do that once in a while ;) ) that LEGO should capitalize on their family friendly brand with their own LEGO themed version of Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Before you guys tell me this should be in the software section please here me out since I think LEGO could make actually LEGO sets out of this theme.

While I love Guitar Hero and I really looking forward to Rock Band when it comes out, I don't think these games are suited for younglings and LEGO could come out with their own version and partner up with the creators of GH or RB. Imagine LEGO guys rock'n out on stage and while they might not be singing 'Killing in the Name of' by Rage Against the Machine and etc, it still would be a lot of fun, especially for the younger ones who can't play guitar hero or Rock Band.

LEGO would also make 'LEGO - Rockers' (or Little Rockers) sets with some legendary rock/metal bands and offer a person to customize their own band on LEGO-Factory as well. LEGO could also come out with some UCS sets that would let you make a Fender Strat or a killer drum kit (not fullsize ones, just some cool details).

Just a thought or two.....

so, as a way of promoting the brand to girls, they will create lego n'sync sets? to maybe reach out to teenagers they could consider making lego of megadeth or other heavy metal bands? hmm...sounds crazy enough to work. :-P it's not sarcasm btw but not sure what the long term effect will have on the brand. incorporating rebelliousness into a brand certainly makes it popular with teens, without a doubt (kinda like how lilz brats dolls sell better than squeeky clean barbie). just doesn't bode well with the parents though.

Nice moc idea. I believe that that is a credible idea - but could they get actual band licenses?

Younger kids always like to pretend they're like older teenagers and 'LEGO Rockers' would let them be able to rock out.

What would be really cool if LEGO was able to mix in some of their SW characters into the mix (with Lucas' approval of course) so we could have Vader singing 'One' by Metallica or Slave Leia singing 'I'm just a girl' by No Doubt.

I would have to completely disagree with you. Kids can play guitar hero. It's just a matter of them playing long enough to play well. With enough reps at a single song on Guitar Hero, it's possible to play it very well. Don't believe me? Look at this

. A 5 year old is even better than me. I'm in High School.

Also, I don't think this set would be that popular. The setup would be similar to the LEGO theatre and film line, and I don't think that was that much of a hit, well at least until Spider Man was involved. Plus there's a good share of the LEGO community that aren't kids.

That 5 year old is really-really good.

I think this is a case in which the exception proves the rule. While some parents let their young children play GH, HALO, and etc, but alot of parents would find a large portion of the content of those games not-age appropriate.

I know I must sound like a prude, but having kids has really changed the way I view entertainment.

There are lot more than just one exception. There were multiple videos of little kids playing Guitar Hero up on YouTube and my friend, Mike's, little 7 year old brother plays Guitar Hero quite well and loves playing it. Video games and electronic entertainment are just a lot more common these days. Last year I taught a 3rd grade Sunday School class and after Christmas break, 2 of the kids were so happy cause they got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. Just becaues they play video games, however, doesn't mean they're playing violent ones though.

I definitly would be very interested in TLC making such a theme. But my theory is this is a good idea to be left to the AFOL. There would be way too many music categories plus bands for TLC to choose from. Leaving this up to the individual is a much better idea. That way "we" as the builder could create the bands/music "we" like. I will definitly give you two *y* up for the idea though.

Model On!!

As Matthew pointed out, it would be very hard choosing a band, since everybody has his or her own favorites. Therefore licensed sets wouldn't be practical in my opinion. The idea could still work if TLC were to create their own bands, like LEGODETH, RED HOT LEGO PEPPERS or LEGOCAT DOLLS :-D

Hmmmm.... *dreams away at the idea of KISS minifigs*

Oh no, wait! Even better! Spice Girls! Purrr, haha.

Of course official licenses would be cool. But maybe TLC can just start by producing a marching band and a small rock/pop concert set for the City theme? That way we'll have official instruments, without having to spend a lot extra because it's a license.

That City Rockband idea above me is great. We would have the setting and just adjust the figures! So you get the instruments that are molded! Well, because this topic, I wild bould a Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert! THEY ROCK! =)

I get the feeling this has kind of been discussed before...

Ah well. I still think this is heading in the right direction, but instead of licences and stuff, make it Lego Studios sets, with cameras, recording, instruments and figs. They could have new hairpieces too, maybe finally make a mohawk like the dude has on Lego Stunt Rally. I really want a Lego drum kit. *wub*

And by the way, it's "Killing In The Name". No 'of'. Rage is going to be at The Big Day Out in New Zealand... I wish I could go! :'-(

Whether they were licensed or not, I think LEGO musical instruments are long overdue. Guitars, drums, even orchestral pieces like violins, trumpets, harps and cellos would be a cool addition to minifig-scaled worlds.

Of course, I'd like to see bands like U2, The Beatles and Coldplay made, but if the instruments were out there, people could make their own MOC favorite bands more easily.

O, and don't make them fleshie, they wouldn't fit in my LEGO world. But they would be nice after a glass (if they were fleshie). Sometimes it's hard to find the right faces... But if the instruments were made, I would be happy!

I think the idea of a Rock set would be awesome, but licenced I don't think is really neccessary. To get the likeness rights for bands, especially the top ones, would cost Lego a lot of money, especially considering it wouldn't be as profitable as a movie license. Just make it a generic theme, release some awesome packs, and some sweet minifigs.

Hell release a Stage, which comes with a generic rock band, and then release packs which comes with different assortments (classical, metal, pop) which would come with some of the neccessary pieces, and a small stage piece.

AKA for the Metal Set, you'd get some Minifigs in black gear, emo and long hair pieces with King V style guitars and what not (perhaps even get guitar Gibson license, and then make a scaled out Lego Guitar like the Ferrarri series do) and like a massive Skull that could be hung onto the stage from the other set.

For the Classical set, you could have suited up minifigs, a conductor, and a grand piano with minifigs with violin moulds, trumpet moulds and what not.

The Pop Set could feature the female singer, some backup singers and a massive brick built poster with the fictional singers name on it.

All of the different sets would have that centrepiece that can be attached to the stage to add to the look. The stage itself would could be similar to the one in the original post. I know the Metal/Rock sets would be easier to come up with for ideas, but Lego would be looking to get the most out of the theme, so mixing it up would be cool.

Either way Lego instruments have been long overdue
