steph77 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Hello, You asked in your first post if one single L motor would be able to run you excavator. The answer is yes. Follow the link here Under. One single M motor for six functions was ok. Quote
agrof Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Thanks Steph77! I am so far also convinced by the power of the L motor. Dafgek81, your question is well-founded. I lost my motivation. Maybe I set too strong constraint into the arm design: I want to make it 3 studs wide... well, we will see. Rest is quite OK, there is only a minor issue with the middle clutch of the upper gearbox, it clogs a bit. Maybe I have built an injured part in it, or I need to revise the connections. This is the actual built status, with a sketch arm design which will not fit. HERE is the up-to-date LDD file, if someone is interested. At the phase any constructive idea is welcome! Edited October 24, 2016 by agrof LXF file is removed, newer version is below in comments. Quote
2LegoOrNot2Lego... Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Well I have to say that the looks are phenomenal!!! They really are... I hope that you find your motivation somehow, because I think this build deserves to be finished someday... ...I really do! Quote
agrof Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks Ingmar, I hope so, because I think the same too! Feels like at the university... too much time was killed in not to finish. Quote
suffocation Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I'm usually keener on larger builds but this one's a beauty. It's pretty common to get burnt out and shelve a project for a while - I'm sure you'll find the inspiration and motivation to see it through eventually. Quote
Lipko Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 This looks so tidy. What about um... Making the boom wider? At this scale and the overall tidy and cute look, I think it's perfectly okay to build chubbier models. Maybe you are concerned about symmetry (you want the boom to be in the center, so widening means narrowing the cockpit). Well, many machines have their booms off the center line. Quote
Richard L aka Scooby Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Yep, this is a musthave when its finnished. I like every brick of it. Quote
Dafgek81 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I hope you will finish it, it looks so nice and tidy. And yes some cranes have their boom off centre. Quote
leo360 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 hi agrof, First of all, this is a very nice moc. I am building this moc. It takes some time with the gearbox via the LDD file. But got it done. But have one question. The turning of the turnable via the 12 gear does not work for me. The 12 gear does not touch the turnable. Did you have a detailed picture of it? Or a solution for it? Keep on the good work. Greetz... Quote
agrof Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) Hi Leo360! The new type big turntable should be used here, which came in 42043. It is bigger in diameter, also has bevel teeth, and has less slack than the old one. Please let me know how the build works for You, consider Yourself as a beta tester. :) Thanks guys for the supporting words! The cabin is ok even for 5 stud wide arm too, I just found/find more challenging to shrink the whole construction. Edited July 7, 2016 by agrof Quote
legolijntje Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Maybe you could take some inspiration from set 8294, which has a (mostly) 3 wide arm Quote
leo360 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 That explains a lot. I'm going to buy one. I searched a long time for a wheeled excavator and this has also the tires that I've still got from a old technic set. The 8456. Today I continuing and I'm going to test the gearbox. Quote
agrof Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) Cool! @legolijntje: thanks, indeed! I forgot about that one. Edited July 8, 2016 by agrof Quote
agrof Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 Let me think about at the lakeside... with some fine wine. Quote
agrof Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) Diary registry: Thanks for the several AMAZING entry to the TC10, I grabbed my chubby excavator from the shelf. After proper analysis I found, that the 5.5 L axle wasn't a good choice for the drive to the lower gearbox - I wanted to secure this axle against slipping out, but unfortunatelly due to the length it had collision with the upper gearbox middle drive ring while shifting. I replaced with normal 5 L axle (marked in purple in the picture), now it works OK. Updated LDD file is available HERE. Edited October 24, 2016 by agrof Quote
Lipko Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 It's great that you are continuing the project. Do you have something for the contest also? Quote
agrof Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Yes: great interest! I was busy on other fields of life, so unfortunately I didn't do much in LEGO recently... Quote
agrof Posted October 26, 2016 Author Posted October 26, 2016 (edited) I reworked some connections to make the whole construction of the top gearbox more rigid. Unfortunately in one position (left shifter forward) the gearbox had way too much internal friction, but with some silicon spray it works definitely smoother. To celebrate this small step, I made a gearbox section view in LDD if someone is interested. Edited October 28, 2016 by agrof Quote
letsbuild Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 So compact! I would never be able to make something as small as that. Quote
brickless_kiwi Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 What are you using to do renders Agrof? I know a little off topic Quote

I know a little off Topic It is called Bluerender, a very user friendly little Software , with great output, see more here (newest Java must be installed): Quote
Dafgek81 Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Hello there, Is this excavator finished yet, or did you quit on it? Loved that little rascal. Quote
agrof Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Hi @Dafgek81! It is not a dead project, but is hibernating due to several reasons. I will definitely finish it once! Quote
