Hello,

You asked in your first post if one single L motor would be able to run you excavator.

The answer is yes. Follow the link here Under. One single M motor for six functions was ok.

Thanks Steph77!

I am so far also convinced by the power of the L motor.

Dafgek81, your question is well-founded.

I lost my motivation. Maybe I set too strong constraint into the arm design: I want to make it 3 studs wide... well, we will see.

Rest is quite OK, there is only a minor issue with the middle clutch of the upper gearbox, it clogs a bit. Maybe I have built an injured part in it, or I need to revise the connections.

This is the actual built status, with a sketch arm design which will not fit. :classic:

HERE is the up-to-date LDD file, if someone is interested. At the phase any constructive idea is welcome!

Thanks Ingmar, I hope so, because I think the same too!

Feels like at the university... too much time was killed in not to finish.

I'm usually keener on larger builds but this one's a beauty.

It's pretty common to get burnt out and shelve a project for a while - I'm sure you'll find the inspiration and motivation to see it through eventually.

This looks so tidy.

What about um... Making the boom wider? At this scale and the overall tidy and cute look, I think it's perfectly okay to build chubbier models. Maybe you are concerned about symmetry (you want the boom to be in the center, so widening means narrowing the cockpit). Well, many machines have their booms off the center line.

hi agrof,

First of all, this is a very nice moc. I am building this moc. It takes some time with the gearbox via the LDD file. But got it done. But have one question. The turning of the turnable via the 12 gear does not work for me. The 12 gear does not touch the turnable. Did you have a detailed picture of it? Or a solution for it?

Keep on the good work.

Hi Leo360!

The new type big turntable should be used here, which came in 42043.

It is bigger in diameter, also has bevel teeth, and has less slack than the old one.

Please let me know how the build works for You, consider Yourself as a beta tester. :)

Thanks guys for the supporting words!

The cabin is ok even for 5 stud wide arm too, I just found/find more challenging to shrink the whole construction.

That explains a lot. I'm going to buy one. I searched a long time for a wheeled excavator and this has also the tires that I've still got from a old technic set. The 8456. Today I continuing and I'm going to test the gearbox.

Diary registry: Thanks for the several AMAZING entry to the TC10, I grabbed my chubby excavator from the shelf.

After proper analysis I found, that the 5.5 L axle wasn't a good choice for the drive to the lower gearbox - I wanted to secure this axle against slipping out, but unfortunatelly due to the length it had collision with the upper gearbox middle drive ring while shifting. I replaced with normal 5 L axle (marked in purple in the picture), now it works OK.

I reworked some connections to make the whole construction of the top gearbox more rigid. Unfortunately in one position (left shifter forward) the gearbox had way too much internal friction, but with some silicon spray it works definitely smoother. To celebrate this small step, I made a gearbox section view in LDD if someone is interested.

So compact! I would never be able to make something as small as that.

Thanks, I thought the same before, but 12 minutes later... :classic:

What are you using to do renders Agrof? I know a little off Topic

It is called Bluerender, a very user friendly little Software , with great output, see more here (newest Java must be installed):
