Hello folks,

Got a question about the hook 30395, which is used on the 8110 Unimog.

I would like to use it as the lifting hook on the crane on my Actros.

It should be placed at the end off the crane when the bucket is not attached.

But how can I do this.

Below is a link to a photo where you might see where the bucket construction is attached.

It is held by a 2x2 plate with a pin at the bottem

On what part can I attach the hook there?

Facebook link doesn't work for people without a Facebook account...

There are a number of ways to mount that hook. It has tow ball at the end which means it can be snapped into parts that can accept a tow ball like one of these. It depends on if the hook for show or you plan to do heavy lifting with it. You plan to lift, it might be better to attach it to a string and make a winch.

Sorry about the facebook link, but don't have a Flickr account.

And Brickshelf takes a few days to get public.

Below is a link on Brickshelf off the original by Sandman.

It's not a very good picture to see the connection for the clamshell buckets, but there isn't a better one and my crane isn't finished yet.

I do not want to use a winch, is not very realistic on such a small crane.

Don't want to use it for very heavy lifting but that part dr. Spock showed isn't what I am looking for.

But thanks for the suggestion.

How about something like these?

The first one you can run a technic axle through the hole and have it held between two liftarms or connectors at the end of the crane arm.

Brickshelf tip, you don't have to wait until the folder has been moderated to post a deeplink to the image. As long as the image is within the EB site guidelines size, it'll work.

Sorry if it sounds a bit stupid, but how do I post a deeplink?

I ain't such a computer expert.

Is that a link to a certain picture itself instead of putting one to a folder?

Thanks for the options by the way.

That's a very nice hook design, dr_spock. Does this part fit on one of the 2L axles to make it a tackle block? I would try it but I can't for the life of me find any of my cam pieces.

All you have to do is right click on the picture, which should pull up a sub menu, then click on the option that says "Copy Image Location". Alternately, in Brickshelf, click on the image until you see the image itself, with a URL ending in .jpg or another image extension. Then, take that URL, come to this site, and when you are making a post, click on the Image button, which is below and to the left of the emoticon button, which pulls up a dialog box, then paste the image URL into that box, and click the okay button. I'd link to the tutorial, but that thread seems to be missing...

Anyway, a knuckle boom of that size could be used with a winch, or a fixed hook, I have seen it done both ways. If you are not using the clamshell grab, I'd recommend using the bigger metal hook used in 8258. In order to attach that, all you'd have to do is turn the angle connector used to connect the clamshell 90 degrees, so it points straight down, and then use a couple of 2L liftarms to connect the hook.

Also, Buster Haus, it would not fit in the configuration shown, as those cam pieces have to be less than 1/2 studs apart in order to grip the hook.

Hello Saberwing40k,

Thanks for the explanation.

But I don't like the hook on 8258, just to bulky.

I think I'll tinker the "cam" option from dr. Spock to fit it without a cord.
