SteveOC Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) 75049 Snowspeeder alternate build (B-Wing) I used nearly all the parts from the Snowspeeder to make it. Not perfect but I had fun doing it. 20160124_124729 by Stephen O'Connor, on Flickr 20160124_125234 by Stephen O'Connor, on Flickr Edited February 8, 2016 by SteveOC Quote

SteveOC Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 The tricky bits were getting the wings to fully fold and bulking up the engines section. Ideally I would have liked to tidy up the back of the cockpit pod and improve the trailing edge sweep of the main wing but it got to the "good enough" point. Quote
joebiwankenobi Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 This is pretty neat. I like how with your limited parts selection you were able to create an instantly recognizable and functional model of a B-wing. Reminds me of the alternate builds they used to put on the original lego starwars sets. In fact, your creative build reminds me of the original B-wing kit. How long did this take you to build? Quote
LiLmeFromDaFuture Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Ahh, reminds me of the old days when Lego featured alternative builds for theirs sets. One classic example is the "X-walker Defense Pod" from the 4502 X-wing Fighter! Quote
SteveOC Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 Thanks JPN366 This is pretty neat. Thanks joebiwankenobi. I didn't really keep track of how long it took to build. I just played around with it while half watching TV so maybe an hour or two a day for a week. I guess the general shape took 4 hours? Then it was just a case of tinkering around with it and using up the loose parts and making the wings work and the cockpit repositionable.I nearly purchased the B-Wing kit but the Snowspeeder was cheaper and better looking in my opinion. The Snowspeeder cockpit section build and the two grey wing pieces inspired me to have a go at a B-Wing alternate build. Ahh, reminds me of the old days when Lego featured alternative builds for theirs sets. One classic example is the "X-walker Defense Pod" from the 4502 X-wing Fighter! I really miss those alternate build ideas on the back of the boxes. Just looked up the "X-walker Defense Pod" pretty good! Quote
rollermonkey Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 That's impressive. I never would have thought a B-wing could be made even half as well from that set! Quote
Junior Shark Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 (edited) *Sigh* Makes me pine for the long-lost days of alternate builds. It was a more innocent time. Jeez, I feel so old (when it comes to Lego). I'm only 18, and I'm already like, "Back in my day, you young whippersnappers..." @SteveOC: "Not perfect but I had fun doing it." That's all that matters, man. Edited February 12, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
SteveOC Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 Thanks rollermonkey and Junior Shark. I've played around with it a little more and increased the trailing edge sweep and swopped the two 6x1 pieces that stuck out either side of the cockpit for two 4x1 pieces. I also used the grappling hook cable reel and put the grappling hook/stud gun in the cockpit as a..... thingy! This means all the pieces used to make the Snowspeeder have been used to make the B-Wing. I didn't use any of the extra spare pieces that came with the set. I need to work on my photography though! 20160212_163813 by Stephen O'Connor, on Flickr 20160212_171258 by Stephen O'Connor, on Flickr Quote
derhay Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Nicely done. My current fascination/obsession is with the B-Wing. I think this is great. Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 (edited) Thanks, I haven't been able to find/create and alt build for this set. Must build now Oh wait no instructions :( must infer from the photo... or can you make an LDD? Edited December 31, 2016 by VaderFan2187 Quote
SteveOC Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 Thanks all, nice to see this one still catches peoples attention :-) There is no LDD unfortunately but hopefully you can see how I did it on the flickr album. It would be great to see if anyone can improve on it too. I might have another go myself and try and get it a bit closer to the actual B-Wing design! Quote
SteveOC Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 I had another go and although the engine section isn't working that well I thought the overall look wasn't too bad.
