So it might not be LEGO compatible and why then do you post it here? It is a nice find, but better for non-LEGO railroaders wouldn't you think?!

I wonder what the equipment looked like. Very interesting that it was installed starting in 1990. Lots of government waste here!

Government waste? It's clearly a private railway lol....

And lay off the guy, we're all interested in trains here and this is a random and unusual thing.

So, who wants to group together and get ourselves some narrow gauge track so we can build some truly epic mocs to run on it? lol

There is a reason for using narrow gauge. Cheaper to build than standard gauge.

Put them in the washing machine on a hot wash. Everything shrinks on a hot wash.

That is quite true and a reason my wife won't let me touch her laundry.

Based on this quote, I assume that it was a former government installation.

I'd hardly call it Government waste when construction of the site began in 1915 together with it's narrow gauge railway system which originally totalled 125 miles. It's had a century of use, first as a production facility for the manufacture of cordite and later as an ammunition storage facility. Besides, I can't see any photos showing rail stamped with a date more recent than 1995.

Transportation of large quantities of volatile chemicals together with large weights of ammunition is best done by rail rather than road. For an internal rail system narrow gauge is perfectly acceptable as it can be run inside bunkers and other structures on-site.

Oooh! What MOCs can we come up with to run on narrow gauge? And will TLG provide the wheels required?

Time to bombard them with demands!

My bad, I missed that.

Well, BBC presenter James May built a whole house out of LEGO and a Meccano motorbike that he was able to use to ride the Isle of Man TT circuit, so is it so fanciful to build a 2 foot gauge train entirely out of LEGO components...??

Well I got an email late last night, from Eurobricks:

Paperballpark,

You have been given a warning.

Reason: Abusive Behaviour

You made a post about non LEGO track, on a LEGO website and it was obviously meant as fun. I can appreciate that. However, what I cannot appreciate is when people are rude to the moderators. A question was asked as to why your post was put in that thread, by a moderator, and it was a legitimate question. Your response was "Lighten up".Instead of telling a moderator what to do, maybe you could have responded differently? Please show courtesy and respect towards other members of this community, thank you.

Now isn't that nice? :look: Apparently, not only is it apparently not ok to post things 'obviously meant as fun', but it also seems that saying 'lighten up' is now classed as abusive behaviour. In addition, I did give an answer to the question, after my 'lighten up' response.

I'm going to word this very carefully (I don't want another warning!). It appears that my comments were not taken in the spirit in which they were meant. So, in an attempt to show greater 'courtesy and respect towards other members of this community', I will no longer use the phrase 'lighten up' on this forum. :hmpf_bad:

Kinda weird. I don't see a reason why this is abusive behaviour. I didn't know something like that is taken so seriously. Or better: 'too seriously.' An official warning seems harsh.

I think discussions about moderators actions can go to the "Some rude moderators?" thread in Forum Information. Seeing the crap that MOD's have to deal with all the time in the other threads, Train Tech is rather tame in comparison.

Anyway about the track, I love this random tidbit of rail history. My hometown has a US Army munitions depot and it is covered in raillines. A military base would make a great scene to MOC on a LUG track layout.

And yes I appreciate the joke about metal track being hard to find :) I use Power Functions though so I am content with plastic track for now.

I found this funny as well.

However i do understand the moderators making short process sometimes. As if every member posted jokes all the time in theme forums, it will become hard for members to differentiate between real topics and fun topics.

Maybe it should just have been posted in Community. But dont get me wrong. Im all for putting in some humor in our all to serious topics now and then.

Hell, i would rather have lots of these posts than the childish behavior some grown ups have discussions about in many licensed topics for example.

Did read the Rude moderator topic as well. And as always, moderators will look into it for sure.

Paperballpark, just keep your good mood up. Much better than people arguing.

Would an off topic forum in train tech fill the void of non Lego train discussions? Just a thought. Most of folks here love trains and well I haven't seen any other train forum with the folks we have here
