copy/paste from FBTB :-$

I read about the DIE-Wing in one of the X-wing books, named so for its slow speed (Y-wing engines) and weak hull (TIE cockpit). I'm practically done with it, but I really want to have anyone's input on fixing a stability issue, along with constructive criticism. Basic shots:

These two pics show where the DIE is having stability problems with connecting the engines to the cockpit. This pic shows (in the red circles) that the 1x6 plate isn't exactly aligned with connecting the cockpit to the engine:

This shows that as a result, the 1x6 plate bends (on both sides), meaning that the engines are also wobbily:

This was the only way how I could connect the engines to the cockpit, in addition to using pins.

Though it isn't a huge issue, I'd prefer to have it more stable. :-/

Maybe this is stupid...but why don't you just make the connection using plates of 5-stud length? Clearly there isn't a 2x5 plate, but you could make one with two stacks of a 2x2 and 2x3 surely

Sorry I can't offer any construction advice, but that is one hell of a nice looking TYE-Wing Ugly! I especially like the changes to the front of the starboard engine nacelle.

I've been meaning to whip some Uglies up for years, after seeing this one I may have some encouragement to actually get it done. deino2.gif

First off - lovely model, in a hideous ramshackle type way. :-D

Secondly, are you saying that the stud widths aren't quite aligned - and this is what's causing the movement?

If not, perhaps you can elaborate, but if so, have you considered an offset stud configuration in that area?

Thanks for all the comments, guys. *sweet*

@Starwars4J: The problem is that

the stud widths aren't quite aligned
which makes the engines wobbily.

What do you mean? Edited by Darth Andrew

I never heard about this fighter, but it really looks very cool and interesting, well done,

especially with all these nice greebles! *y*

Although I'm not familiar with the exact design of the engines, I don't see why you can't modify the engines slightly to fit a 3 wide connection instead of the 1x6 plate. And if that proves difficult because of the 45 degree rotation of the engines, you could always use clickhinges. Also, I'm not sure wether you should've kept the blue, it just looks a bit too colorful for my taste.

Other than that, I really like what you've done here. Merging a Tie with a Y-wing is an interesting concept, though in practice it may not be very useful, since its both slow and vulnerable. Just try find a pilot willing to fly the damn contraption! ;-)

My, what a beautifully ugly machine! :-P Great job!

I've always wondered why the two things were mixed- A TIE bomber sounds much better. *wacko*
