hi all guys, i'm new to digital design and a lover of Star Wars lego, and my aim was to build a nice model of a Tie Bomber!

i have some questions before i can start: i used couple times LDD to make some easy design, but now i was looking for kinda "recent" parts that LDD does not have, i was wondering if Ldraw is more updated with new parts!

i have installed it but with the Search i could not find the parts i was looking for; there's a beginner guide for that?

also the possibility to expand LDD parts database would be useful...

also, Ldraw offers the possibility to create instructions when the MoC is finished, and also a complete part list to buy them?

sorry for my newbie post, and thanks to all who help me :)

Welcome to the virtual lego community!

I assume we are talking about LDraw? So may you please specify what excatly you have installed? Which editor? Which tool do you use for part search?

To see if parts are generally available in LDraw you can use the LDraw parts tracker.

also, Ldraw offers the possibility to create instructions when the MoC is finished, and also a complete part list to buy them?

Yes. For creating instructions you may use Lpub for example. This tool should be part of the LDraw All-In-One-Installer.

There are several tools which can be used for creating a part list. For example LDview (part of A-I-O-I) or MPDcenter.

As far as I remember some LDraw tools even support Bricklink export.

thank you, the question is: is possible that parts like

50747pb06.jpg

Item No: 50747pb06

are not available neither in LDD or Ldraw?

to answer your question yes, i installed Ldraw, this is what my folder looks like:

i also tried to search LDfind or the Offline part catalog but i cant find, for example, the part i linked above!

is there any update i have to make to download a full - part catalog?

thank you!

That specific pattern is not available in LDraw yet, only the unpatterned version and one other print:

If you haven't done this yet, I strongly recommend you to install and use LDCad instead of the supplied editor (MLCad). Read about LDCad here.

i'm downloading it, why you suggest it? easier to use at beginning?

plus, it tells me to download the complete library here

http://www.ldraw.org/download/detail/complete/88.html

but... it leads to nowhere D:

That specific pattern is not available in LDraw yet, ...

Unfortunately that's right!

However, there is a tiny chance: Please have a look to this LDraw forum.

I highly appreciate this possibility for requesting a new part in LDraw. And sometimes wishes actually do come true....

Sorry about the dead link, the latest LDraw parts are here:

http://www.ldraw.org...test-parts.html

You usually want to get the 'complete.zip' one. It contains about 13000 files (~8000 parts).

Place it somewhere central e.g. you 'my documents' folder, LDCad can use it without unpacking (will be slightly faster) but most LDraw tools will need it in its unpacked state.
