bountybossk Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Hello everyone! Since LEGO still hasn't redesigned the 2002 version of the minifig-scale Twin-Pod Cloud Car, I gave it a try. I think it's the first MOC I've done since I was 11 years old (15 years ago), but I'm looking forward to your feedback. Storm IV Twin-Pod Cloud Car Pieces: 224 (incl. minifigs) Minifigs: Lando Calrissian, Cloud Car pilot & Han Solo Features: two opening cockpits and two spring-loaded shooters. The spring-loaded shooters are (almost) hidden in the lower part of the Cloud Car and are activated by pressing the grey button on the cross axle (I've tested the mechanism with real bricks). By the way: the canopy definitely needs a print to look more like the source material, but I'm ok with the shape. Lando needs Finn's hair piece. Edited January 25, 2016 by bountybossk Quote
WarSquirrel Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Wow! looks great! I would love to get this as a new set. Maybe with the Carbon Freezing Chamber out a few more Bespin sets couldnt hurt Quote
bootz Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 This would look be a great consolation for the Carbon Freezing Chamber, with Lobot instead of Han though. Quote
jamie75 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Nice, I like it! Wish Lego would redo this set. The previous set is almost 15 year old and VERY dated. Jamie Quote
atlas Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Very cool . legos neglect of bespin is staggering Quote
joebiwankenobi Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 It's so sleek! Nice job with concealing the spring shooters and adding the triggers on the sides. I like the cockpits, too. The curvature you achieved there is extremely good. Quote
bountybossk Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 This would look be a great consolation for the Carbon Freezing Chamber, with Lobot instead of Han though. I thought about adding Lobot. However, the 2012 Lobot fig still looks pretty good and it has been 6 years (2010 AT-AT) since a dark blue jacket Han Solo was released. And I really want a dark blue jacket Han Solo ;). Quote
hodberta Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I like it! Wish Lego would redo this set Quote
Kristof Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 First MOC after 15 years? Respect! I like it a lot. Quote
hachiroku Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Nice moc! I wonder how it could look with the 75102 cockpit: Quote
Kristof Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 ^ um...super weird i guess? The shape is no way near the real thing in my oppinion. That being said, neither is this bubble shape windscreen bountybossk used but that one at least fit the overal size and proportion. And as mentioned, with propper print it could make for a decent resemblance eventually. Interestingly, the original (old) lego model did surprisingly good job capturing the blockyness of that cockpit with so limited piece range. I don't know any existing single piece canopy that would make for good representation on its own. I thought about using THIS piece once but besides not being ideal, that would also boost the scale way up. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Very nice MIC. I would buy it if it was an official set. That mustached pilot figure would be a great addition to a Star Wars collection Quote
Junior Shark Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Nice work! Just makes me despair even more for a new Cloud Car set, though. I think that cockpit bubble is the better solution over the new X-Wing canopy. Quote

Ah you're right, I forgot he came in the mini Cloud Car! And looking at pics of the real ship, I prefer your bubble canopy to the actual one. The bubble fits the design far better even if it isn't accurate. Quote
bountybossk Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 First MOC after 15 years? Respect! I like it a lot. Thanks! I've bought/built a dozen SW sets since I left my dark ages behind two years ago, but this actually the first MOC I've done since I started collecting again. I'm thinking of building an AT-ST and Boba's Slave I (system scale) next. That being said, neither is this bubble shape windscreen bountybossk used but that one at least fit the overal size and proportion. And as mentioned, with propper print it could make for a decent resemblance eventually. I don't know any existing single piece canopy that would make for good representation on its own. I thought about using THIS piece once but besides not being ideal, that would also boost the scale way up. I think I tried 20 options for the canopy. I eventually chose for the bubble-canopy because of its size, the way it looks in combination with the rest of the model and this image. I really like the look of the piece you suggested. Didn't even know it existed. The shape is almost perfect (except for the back), but like you said, it's way too big for this model. I'll also post an image of the firing mechanism. It's quite an unusual method, but it works perfectly. Quote
bountybossk Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Here's the firing mechanism. It's really simple and effective. The cheese slope presses the missile a bit downwards which makes it shoot out. Quote
bootz Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 When you said it was unusual I had a feeling there was a cheese wedge pushing on it. Quote
joebiwankenobi Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Love the mechanism. Subtle yet functional. Quote
LOBOT-OMY Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Sorry to revive this old thread, but I have only just seen this. I have to say, this is a fantastic design, and the spring loaded firing system is genius !! Love it bountybossk. I wish I had LDD for chromebook OS ! Quote
dimnico Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Lovely build. I really want to see an updated cloud car set. They are such a unique vehicle. Quote

I was actually surprised to see that the new AT-ST uses the same technique to fire its shooters. Awesome set by the way! Quote
ProvenceTristram Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Is this on Lego Ideas? If it isn't, it should be. This is precisely the type of small set they like to produce. Quote

jdubbs Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I would as well! Though it would need to include two pilots, rather than one. Have you thought about landing gears? I guess it doesn't really need them, but the original Kenner toy had them so I tend to think of them as part of the ship's design. Quote
