I've noticed most of the MOCs posted here are real-life...is posting MOCs created using LDD discouraged? I'm low on space and time (and 80% or more of my bricks are still in sealed boxes...) so LDD is about all I can do right now. Thanks in advance for responses.

Rendering your LDD MOC with LDD2POV or BlueRender before posting would make your presentation look much nicer. You can also put LDD in your thread title.

The most annoying thing about LDD is exporting the brick file to buy the parts. So I decided to quit LDD. And it also requires an older OS on my computer. Thanks to a post in Train Tech I finally know how to export a list to bricklink.

This is good practice. Put LDD in the title, so they are easy to avoid if you only like looking at real Lego mocs.

There are two tools to do that: LDDManager and BrickUtils. Both will create BOMs (Bill of Materials) that you can export/use in Bricklink directly. However, both tools haven't been updated in a little while. LDDManager only works on Windows, but BrickUtils work on Mac too (Java based if I remember correctly). Also, you can export a BOM directly within LDD on the File > Export BOM.

The main issue with LDD at the moment is that we are unsure about future updates to the program itself and to the brick database. There is a discussion about it in the Digital Design forum here at EB.

Just to mention it too, there is also the LDraw ecosystem of tools as well as an online tool called Mecabricks.

And no, digital MOCs are not discouraged, but even I as a "digital guy" prefer physical MOCs and I see digital tools are a support in the creative process towards building with real plastic. But that's just me.

And starting a topic with [LDD MOC] is a good idea (or [Ldraw MOC] if that platform is used.

If you have a rebrickable account, you can upload the ldd file to a private moc. From there you can easily order the bricks from bricklink or other sites.

I often use leocad for polishing a design with pieces or colors I don't have. I prefer physical bricks generally because digital design doesn't tell you if it will hold together well.
