Hinckley Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I clearly had some problems here with lighting consistency and you can tell when I had to empty the memory card because the scene shifts a little. I have to get a bigger memory card, because it's near impossible to return the camera to the exact position. It looks washed out because I put it through a ton of filters to try to get the color consistent...not great, I know but enjoy... :-$ My first cartoon I work with flash a lot but this is my first stop motion experiment... iamded Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 :-D :-D Awesome! It does flow very smoothly, I didn't know Sinner could whack so fast! :-P Great job, I'd love to see what you can come up with next. *y* ~Peace Quote
Batbrick Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) Is a start, but as an animator myself I'd recommend you get a Logitech (are we allowed to show brands here?) webcam, and download (for free! *sweet* ) a program called Logitech Imagestudio. Then you take frames via the computer instead of always touching the camera. You can also delete thes frames of choose the fps (frames per second) Do you plan to try this again friend? Siegfried Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Cool! :-D That's pretty darn good for a first attempt and I am surprised at your results considering it is only 51 frames. I love how you made it loopable so they can keep whacking for ever! :'-) Isn't that shot on my boat? :-P I have to get a bigger memory card, because it's near impossible to return the camera to the exact position. The biggest your camera can take is 128 MB and they are near impossible to find now. I'm in the market for one as my old one died (I'm using my 64 MB backup) so if you find one please grab one for me! (They should be dirt cheap... if you can find one.) Quote

And you did remind me, I have done LEGO animations before, because I had that Logitech camera and software, but it was back in 2000 when I had just graduated from college. I re-enacted my friend's car accident with that. Thanks for reminding me and thanks for the advice! That sounds much faster than the process I used. I remember not having to touch the camera and all the images are saved straight to the timeline. I built a base out of LEGO for my camera, it worked very well for a mini-fig generator I'm working on, but not for this... You should start a thread for your animations. I'd love to see them! And yes you can pimp brands here... ;-) Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted October 22, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted October 22, 2007 Very good for a first attempt. But why does that poor walrus always have to be hit? Can't you be more nice to him? :-D Quote

I'll check on that and get back to you. Thanks too! :-$ That is shot on your boat. I thought it was appropriate. Perhaps you caught me trying to steal back the ice cube tray. Or maybe it was your precious Manga drawing instruction manual with convenient lableled pens. Yes, we'll be whacking eachother for eternity now... 8-| Very good for a first attempt. But why does that poor walrus always have to be hit? Can't you be more nice to him? :-D You too, huh? >:-( Didn't you see the part where I got whacked in the head repeatedly with an oar? Seriously, everyone's so concerned about the walrus. I've been given wedgies, swirlies, been shoved in a garbage can, whacked bloody, shoved in a laundry chute, bare-megablocks spanked, dumped in poo, the list goes on and on. But the poor cute little walrus gets a little bonk in the head and everyone's all :'-( awwww, poor walrus. And who are you to talk, you chased him with a sword! Oh and thanks! :-$ You're going to get it Sinner! >:-( Quote

It is hilarious and mad me laugh! :-D Thankyou for your encouragement, I do not know how to post films on youtube, I will have to find out..... Thanks again! *sweet* I Am FEAR Incarnate! *skull* Quote
Shadows Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 That's not craptastic, it's whacktastic! The flickering light level and slightly jerky nature of the movement give it a historic feel. If it was in black and white, it could have a ragtime piano background, occasional captions, and at the end a train could come through the building and drag you both off. In other words, it's very early 1920's and that's a good thing! *sweet* *y* Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 This eternal rivalry can only end in nuclear confrontation - fortunately I have a ready-made bunker. Nice footage, hope to see more - I might try my hand at this one day although I'm scared... Dr. S. Quote
LuxorV Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Very nice try *y* *y* I think in the end those to worry about would be the oars.. with those two hard heads of yours, they're gonna break X-D :-P LuxorV Quote

gylman Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I think having Hinckely's head move back a tiny bit with each of the hits would add greatly to the "realism" of the animation. It's only a matter of taking a single extra pic, and inserting it into each of the cycles where Hinckley is hit. Quote

It's only a matter of taking a single extra pic, and inserting it into each of the cycles where Hinckley is hit. Oh really? You make it sound so simple. :-P Unfortunately it's not simple. It's too difficult to get the camera in the exact spot. I do realize what you are saying though. I don't react at all, it's as if the oar is bouncing off of my hat. The first set I did, which all came back out of focus, had me bending forward a little bit with each whack, there was also a funny bit where Sinner shook off the smacks...but it was all useless because I hadn't focused it right...so I made this one simpler in case it came out wrong...but I will definitely have me respond to the stimulus next time. Thanks for the tip, buddy! *sweet* *y* Quote
goggleson Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) It is rather..begginerish, if I have the time from steampunk I may show you how it's done! EDIT: nevermind, it rocks. My slow computer made it look like 1 frame per second. Edited October 22, 2007 by goggleson Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Very well done for a start! Sinner is now a super-fast walrus! :-D Quote
doug7172 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Heh cool! oh and it bieng "craptastic", Well lets just say that my attemps a while ago where unmetiomnabol! :-P :-P Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I think it's a great start! I don't know alot about animations so I don't have anything constructive to say... *wacko* But I can say it's highly amusing! :-D Animated whacks on! Quote
Axle Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 It's better than my animations and I've been doing them longer.Clearly I need to take more frames. You should downsize it and put it in your sig! Quote
doug7172 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Wow I still love it! Uhh I guess I should go try again Quote

I thought it wasn't very good until suddenly it sped up. :-P So, this is very nice early try Hinckley. *y* Quote
yellost Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 THEY'RE ALIVE!!!! He he he. Nice one. But I'd try to make you Hit sinner harder. As it is, it seems more like your padding him on the cheek (or 'stache, as it were :p ) than actually whacking him... Whack the Walrus ON! (and do it live) Quote
Corvus Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 When I opened it, It slow. I started wondering if I would actually have to insult Hinckley ( :-P ) but as it ran again it worked. Phew! Good work for your first, Hinckley! Smack that walrus! :-P Quote
Asuka Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Oh, how nice, a perpetuum whacking mobile.... :-D Quote
toe Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I knew that I had been watching it too long when i could hear the sounds that weren't eminating from the whacking. Quote
