Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 So, I get a brand new Skeleton Prison Carriage from my mom today after beating her in a game of logic at a wedding last night (I woke up with a splitting headache from the Champagne) and I opened it up and got the instructions, etc. Guess what? The Instructions fell apart, so I had to piece them back together. Every single castle set I own has done this. Anyone else have this problem? Close if dupe, redirect if necessary, etc. Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 This has never happened to me - not once. I am wondering - might this be a North American only problem, perhaps quality control at the LEGO factory over there is suffering? Dr. S. Quote
Nyundi Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I've been collecting Lego in the US for ~20 years, never had anything like this happen :-( I have had one or two instructions be a little "loose" around the staples, but never to the point of falling apart! Must be bad luck on your part 8-| Quote
Siegfried Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Never. Honest. My only gripe with Lego instructions is that for larger sets they should be restrained so they don't get so dog-eared in transit. Quote

Batbrick Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I have had this problem, my Crab Crusher middle page wasn't even connected, and my Building Bonanza instructions were barely holding themselves together. |-/ The big instructions should be more incapable of wear and tear me thinks. I Am FEAR Inarnate! *skull* Quote
hewkii9 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Nope, never happened to me. And I doubt it's North American, for the reason I just said. Are you buying all your sets from one place? It could be that. Quote

Hey,I have a good record with Zellers and TRU. These were from different stores, which also shocked me. Mabye it was the shipment? Quote
iamded Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 That's happened with one of my sets... can't remember which though. It wasn't a Castle one. It's shocking it's happened to all your sets though, maybe it's just a serious case of bad luck? I hope this stops, and you get at least 1 good booklet! ~Peace Quote
MatthewUSA Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I also have never had my instruction booklets fall apart, "knocking on wood" as soon as I began building. Sometimes a page could come loose after lots of wear and use, this definitly is understandable. I hope you will be able to find a set with a better booklet *y* . Model On!! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Well, I phoned The folks at Lego, and they told me this: "Has this happened to anyone else?" "Yes. We've had over 50 complaints." 50 complaints? That's an awfully large number of botched up instructions. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Well, I phoned The folks at Lego, and they told me this:"Has this happened to anyone else?" "Yes. We've had over 50 complaints." 50 complaints? That's an awfully large number of botched up instructions. Well, considering how many sets they produce, it isn't really a lot... And no, it's never happened to me. Quote
Lamanda2 Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Very strange.. I've boughten quite alot of the new castle sets this year (7 of the Prison Wagons), and have not had this happen to me. Heck, I can't even recall some of our 15-18 year old set instructions doing this. "Well, considering how many sets they produce, it isn't really a lot..." Indeed. 50 is a very small number compared to the amount of sets TLC puts out and sells. ~Amanda Quote

tedbeard Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Indeed. 50 is a very small number compared to the amount of sets TLC puts out and sells. Actually the number represents a guestimate of how many complaints they have received not how many were actually sub-standard. It is likely that only a fraction of the people complained given that many people would not complain for a variety of reason (ie: assuming child damaged booklet). I would be very concerned if I was Bjarke. :-D Quote
Zarkan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) It happened to me after I had my Catapult defense for a day or 2.... looks like quality might be falling witht the instructions manuals as well as the colors. >:-( Edited October 22, 2007 by Grevious Quote

I opened a new catapult defense I bought and it happened AGAIN!!!! Considering I bought it at the Lego outlet in Cookstown, Ontario, this came as a tremendous shock to me. EDIT: The 50 complaints was in the shipping region I was in (Southern Ontario). Sorry I didn't clarify. Edited October 22, 2007 by Lt. Col. Thok Quote
