Is this Lego?

I remember I had a set of building bricks like this. However, I am not sure whether it's lego or something similar. If it's not lego, then exactly what is it? Anybody knows?

What's weird is that it looks japanese. Chinese would have been normal, but the japanese aren't known for bootlegs. But the poorly drawn smurf also gives it away. It looks like chinese crap with japanese text(?)

Well in the old days Japan was sort of the land of crappy knock-off merchandise. Hard to believe it today. There's a funny reference to that in the 3rd Back to the future movie.

In the same way, at the time of the movie the good electronic things were made in Japan and crap things in China; nowadays good things are also made in China.

Well, Japanese stuff is made in China anyway, but what I meant is that the japanese are usually respectful of copyrights, whereas the Chinese do anything they want.

Tell that to any guitar/bass guitar maniac. They'll give you a nice, long lecture about the 1970s and 1980s, when Japanese companies made guitars indistinguishable from the US-made ones (Aria copied Gibsons and Tokai copied Fenders; in fact, "Tokai" logo looked exactly like "Fender" logo from certain distance). They were better quality and better sounding at lower price point than the originals.

I guess they were practicing their copying ability. The same went with Soviets - in 1940s at the time of war they took watches for various "services" from people in occupied areas. Some officers wore even 5 watches on one wrist. 10-20 years later the Soviet Union was the renowned manufacturer of watches

There's a funny reference to that in the 3rd Back to the future movie.

I always forget about that scene when I watch the movie and I laugh hard every time.
