mutex Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Hello, To gain some place in my collection room, I'm thinking of hanging some 'aerial' sets (mostly technic) to the ceiling. If you have any experience in such montage I'll be happy to hear from you. I really don't know how to make this : - Sturdy AND - (very) discreet I don't want to have a lot of heavy duty screws & hooks in my ceiling, if you know what I mean. :-/ Thanks in advance! :-) Quote
Deinonychus Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I've got a ton of stuff suspended from my ceiling. I've found most LEGO constructions hold up pretty well as long as you hang them with a sort of "sling" method, where you loop your hanging line around a large, solid structure (usually a fuselage). You can then tie a couple of stabilization lines to a wing or engine or something to keep it pointed in a particular direction or to keep it from spinning. The best hardware to use are small metal mug hooks that'll screw into the ceiling and hold strongly. If you really want to keep it low key you can use long T-pins that you can get at any sewing store or in a sewing section at most department stores. The trick with those is to put them in ceilings at slight angles so they don't pull straight out. They are also long enough that you can bend them to create hooks and loops. Once you pull them out, the holes they leave are barely noticeable. As to the line, personally I stick with a 20lb-test or 30lb-test fishing wire. That will hold just about everything since 99% of all LEGO sets weigh less then twenty pounds. Quote
Derek Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 For descreetness use fishing line. That only works for smaller things though. :-/ DP8 Quote
Mr Hobbles Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I have some thick thread hanging from a few hooks I've placed in the ceiling. The thread is sandwiched between a couple of bricks on the model. This is how I have my 7903 Rescue Helicopter and 7893 Passenger Plane hung. It's never failed on me yet. :-) Quote
