Starwars4J Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Moved to Culture &Multimedia Though I do wonder how the graphics got a 9 if you said they were worse (in the obvious aspects you mentioned) than the US SMB2... Quote
maiq the liar Posted October 21, 2007 Author Posted October 21, 2007 (edited) THE REPLY, MISC PICS AND OTHER UPDATES POST Didn't say they were worse, i just said they were different...i think P.S: Bonus Pic: PHOTO: Phanto looks less creepy in DDP, but i still hate that ENEMY!! he game me nightmares when i was little! (of course, so did jay jay the jet plane.) Photo: Imajin says "OW!" EDIT: Uploaded a pic of a change i forgot to mention. the BOM-->BOMB picture. THE SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 BETA* MINI-REVIEW *technically DDP is SMB2's beta. this is more the transitional phase. I won't give a rating on this one because: A. It'll have same rating as DDP or SMB2 B. It's a beta First thing worth noticing (besides the title screen, we'll get to that later) is that you start with 19 LIVES. PICTURE: Spiffy. Another thing worth noticing is that what would be potions are still lamps from DDP, as noted in the picture below. Picture: Imajin must have left this laying here! And guess what? the water is STILL seizuretronic and the POW blocks aren't animated. PICTURE: Water is seizuretronic as ever. As to the sound, the main thing worth noting is that the cave music was once going to be the Mario 1 and mario 3 cave music (which for some reason, in the beta, sounds like farting outside of the pause menu.) THE TITLE SCREEN. The first thing you notice, is how different the title screen is from the final: Picture: Look at the difference! The bonus chance is the same as DDP's. Anyway, oughta be getting to bed. almost 2 AM. Edited October 21, 2007 by maiq the liar Quote

Towel: 10$Life, the universe and everything: 42 making Poopskin (My bl name is poopskin) look like a big behind(A~R~S~E) on the internet: Priceless You got me. i'll revise my rating. JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Hahaha, cool. I love seeing how drastically different things get changed sometimes due to the politics of "regional alterations". Yeah, Doki Doki Panic took me awhile to find too, finally being acquired through the downloading of an every NES / Famicom game ever zipfile off a torrent site. That you are 12 and interested in such stuff is pretty neat. I'm 34 and lived through the (ANNOYING) dark ages of seeing EVERY cool title from Japan either not coming out here, or being so horridly demolished from it's original product so as to make me want to tear chunks off flesh off my face. (Good case in point, Ranma 1/2 for Super Famicom... Shampoo was turned into a clown, both Ranmas were turned into "tough dudes"... you name it. I can't even remember the name it was released here under!). Even right now, this weekend I've been searching online for all the differences I can find for Castlevania : Symphony of the Night on Playstation, as well as Gameshark codes to restore some of the things original japanese things that got ripped out for the American version. I always knew Super Mario 2 came from Doki Doki Panic, but not before there were a few months of me asking, "Why does everything look so DIFFERENT from the first one?!? These can't be the same programmers!" I didn't like it at first, not looking as "arcade" as the original, but it grew on me. I like how SM2 had a nice, calm ending during the credits. Actually made playing though the whole thing feel like I actually accomplished something important. (Hey man, sleep is sacred.) Quote
maiq the liar Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) yeah, though DDP is a fun game, mario 2 seeems slightly more refined. (P.S: do you have the super mario USA smb2 variant? that is the only one i'm missing) EDIT: and wart is still my favorite charicter. shame he hasn't appeared recently, net even on mario party. Lord Of Pies Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Nice review, it is interesting how things change between regions! I never played SMB2 :-/ or DDP |-/ , but they both look fun!! Quote
maiq the liar Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 P.S: i keep trying to make DDP spritesheets, but when i shift+printscreen them into paint the sprites look as if they here saved as JPGs. how can i fix this? Quote

JINZONINGEN73 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 P.S: i keep trying to make DDP spritesheets, but when i shift+printscreen them into paint the sprites look as if they here saved as JPGs. how can i fix this? It's been FOREVER since I fired up an NES emulator, but I'm guessing there's options for what type of file you want snapshots taken as. Of course, I'm going off experience with arcade and capcom system (kawaks) emus. Quote
maiq the liar Posted November 5, 2007 Author Posted November 5, 2007 I DL'd another emulator just for DDP...and now the sprites come out clean and i could hear the sounds i couldnt before. Quote
