_Samibotss_ Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) Pieces : 183 Original Model : UCS Naboo StarFighter Modifications : Back modified to be movie accurate, wings bigger and more chrome. Gold instead of Yellow. This Model was first built from the UCS Naboo starfighter instructions, then modified, and chrome/gold added. I built this model ENTIRELY from my brick bin, without Bricklinking or Buying new parts, this is why it is missing Rocket Steps. One thing I missed are the sticks behind the main engines, I forgot to spray them. And the right engine's end may seem not chromed, I sprayed it the wrong colour. ( Image edited, old one removed ) Overall I'm happy with the result, it looks much better in real life than in the photos. I might post some more and better light photos What do you think? Kristof Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Silver front is fine (and movie accurate) but why old for the rest? True that I'm not fan of painting in general but when it's meaningful and well executed, I can appreciate it. Here I must say it looks kinda trashy, especially with that uneven coat. Maybe, as you say, it wouldn't look that weird in real or on better pictures. Try taking a picture on some contrast (white) background - the floor color is to similar to gold which contributes even more to bad look of the pic. Quote
YellowCorvette Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I don't like the gold with the model, since the real N-1 has yellow rather than gold. And also the red 2x2 turntable ruins the color scheme of the model. Quote
took9 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) I think the Naboo is one of the best UCS Ships. But the shiny parts have to be chromed, gold chromed, not sprayed. I think there are some shops who offer rhe service: chromebricks or you can find Anio's solution with his fully chromed ships: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=69102 You can buy the sticker-set at ebay in excellent quality for 10€. _Samibotss_ Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Hello EB Users, I've recently re-painted my UCS Naboo StarFighter, because last time I had forgot to spray some parts, and others were just badly spray painted... Modifications : Red curved Pieces now done better, chromed the engine nose, re-painted some parts. Image - I spray painted a snowtrooper, to make him chrome. Turned out very well.... Image : Quote
Hinckley Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 This does not require a new topic. Please update all of your chrome experiments in this topic. Thank you. Quote
Smitty500 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I think it turned out nice for what resources you have used. Yes spray paint, especially gold, does not make a true chrome, as it lacks the shine and reflectivity. but its a good attempt, rather than plain grey and yellow. I think the silver turned out way better than the gold. Personally I would have just did the silver. the Gold is a bit muddy, and doesn't represent the true gold/yellow, the fighter has. Maybe there is a way you can polish it to make it more reflective, like a several coats of glossy clear coat (Experiment at your own cost, I am no expert). I would look into hydro-chroming, if you want the best look . I am guessing this is how LEGO does there's. Quote

I used Chrome Spray. and gold spray but I didn't metallize the bricks, so this is why it gives this shiny silver and muddy gold in my opinion... As said, I'm just experimenting, trying out new things, and seeing how they turn out.. I was just going to do a yellow and chrome UCS Naboo starfighter mod, but I decided to experiment more on gold... Edited January 1, 2016 by _Samibotss_ Quote
