Merry Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) Sometimes around 1994-1998 I was a big LEGO fan and every year asked Santa to bring the big Royal Knights' Castle. I only found a drawbridge and a carriage under the Christmas tree though. Being a grown-up I finally decided to give in and buy myself one and got stuck choosing the set. Would you help me out? In my memory it was a huge castle with lots of knights, bridge, catapults, skeleton and a dragon attacking. The timing and the name point to 6090, though it doesn't have a dragon. There's one in 7094, though it was a much later set that I stumbled while looking through the Castle timeline. I haven't been around LEGO for years and would appreciate an insider advice. The initial idea is to get 6090 and complement it with another set to have a) dragon b) some other antagonists, for which would you go? And... how does it feel to assemble these 20 years later without kids around? Edited December 30, 2015 by Merry Quote
Blakstone Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I have no issues building LEGO sets in general without kids around. I came out of my Dark Ages after becoming an empty nestor (step-daughter grew up and moved out). I haven't bought any sets that were out when I was a kid but one. It was the Crusader Cart as it was my first Castle set. You are amongst your tribe here and can enjoy these sets without shame. There are thousands of Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) just like you. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) Here's a few different castle sets from over the years. These aren't Classic Castle but there castles of some sort. And here's some from Lord of the Rings Edited January 1, 2016 by Dr.Cogg Quote
BrickJagger Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 First of all, congrats on coming out of your dark ages. If you want big, scary dragons attacking your castle, you would be best off getting some Vikings dragons. http://brickset.com/sets?query=vikings If you prefer large, comical dragons, Fantasy Era is for you. http://brickset.com/sets?query=fantasy%20era Finally, if you want smaller, blockier dragons, who also happen to be from the time period the Royal Knights castle was made in, there are the Dragon Masters. http://brickset.com/sets?query=dragon%20knights Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) For A classic Antique sets, i would recommend: 1)- 6085 2)- 6086 3)- 6081 Edited December 31, 2015 by VintageLegoEra Quote
Merry Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Blakstone, Dr.Cogg, BrickJagger, VintageLegoEra, thank you! Coming out of dark ages feels good I finally looked through old catalogues and this is probably where the dragon is coming from. That makes 6090 and 6097. Consider them my NY resolutions Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Smaug, from the Hobbit set is also a great Dragon, the sets So So, but Smaug's Great Quote
Staslegomaster Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 A castle with a dragon and bridge may be this one. Quote
Sorrelon Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 You could consider getting 7946 and 10223 together. While 7946 alone is a great set, it looks like more of a small keep than a castle. But, when combined with a 10223(perhaps with a minor modifications) it looks great. Quote

Lego Dino 500 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Man, my wish list grows every time I look at this forum. Can't wait until I have my own income to spend on Lego, I'll probably go into bankruptcy Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 ah 6090... that was a great castle. Gave me much fun as a child and it still sits proud on a shelf in my room. Yes sure it IS a great castle. I am keeping it assembled with some Dragon Masters sets too. I loved this era when I was young. If you want a great bad guy sure Basil the bat Lord is a good choice. (But I always found his castle too strange, I prefer the Dragon masters castle or the Black Knights castle) It saddens me that TLG hasn't made a real castle line this year, instead of what we got Nexo Knight, a too sci fi theme for me... Bah ! I will wait and see. Castles and Knights are not limited at one theme so why not ? And perhaps in the future we will see the release of a new castle line ! Quote
