Nice to hear from an official source - kinda gives you that warm fuzzy feeling about TLG.:blush::wub: . The previous comment "only 18 elements in every million produced fail to meet the company's high standards" is not so impressive, when I worked in the auto parts industry, our target was less than 1 bad part per million, and routinely we operated at 1-3 ppm's.

Yes, but your criteria for what is considered a bad part may have been more tolerant.

It's nice to hear an official reply. I had a feeling those bricks weren't headed anywhere nice solely by the look of that container, luckily I don't live in a "what if" bubble.

"Sometimes bricks cannot be donated."

I'd like to know why. If there is no charity close enough to fetch them, there's certainly a BL seller to sell them to for cheap, which would certainly be better than recycling something that's still perfectly usable (unless the parts are all broken of course, but I can't see how that would happen), which has a cost too, & won't replace the energy that was spent to produce the parts in the first place.

But hey, large shops trash tons of good stuff every day, pretty sure many Lego sets have been "compacted" not by Lego directly :(

It's also a Lego-specific thing that parts can be recycled by reusing them for MOCs, you can't say the same about a normal toy having a broken part.

Having worked for an insurance company cleaning up after floods, fires and so on. Sometimes the "values" at hand are being dealt with as hazard depending on circumstances. If the value of what it will take to "clean up" overcomes the value at hand, stuff will just be destroyed. It might be similar circumstances TLG is referring to.
