BrickAddict90 Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 My fiance is addicted to cats. She loves cats. Cat pajamas, cat socks, cat gloves, cat jacket, cat hat, cat necklace, cat shower curtain. Cats cats cats. She loves her cats. She will wear anything that has a cat on it. Cats cats cats. So when I took her on our weekly outing to the Westfarms Lego store and showed her the Pet Shop modular, she became so excited about the cat in it (which is why I wish Lego would put a cat in every single new release, that way I can convince her that it is a necessity). Anyway, my question is: Seeing how this set was first released in 2011, it seems like it's due for a retirement soon. How long do modulars normally stay out for before being retired? I want to get this for her for Christmas, but my Lego budget will not permit me for another two weeks. I know it probably won't be going anywhere two weeks from now, but in the event I am unable to purchase it in time for Christmas, does anyone think the Brick Bank will be replacing the Pet Shop on the shelves? Is there an average retirement time for modulars? Thanks much! :) Quote
Sven F Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Retirement dates of such large sets is something LEGO tries to keep secret. You will probably find a lot of comments on how any particular set is or isn't definitely retiring this year and it's easy for such rumors to spread and influence either buying it or not. Pet shop has been out for a while Pet shop has been rumored to be retiring very soon for at least two years Pet shop had a box update last year indicating at least another production run We don't know how large the productions are nor how well they sell, so that is almost useless information. When sets retire, they first go out of stock, and USA is almost always first to run out. Once they go out of stock, people panic and it's almost impossible to get it even if it does momentarily turn back in stock. The end of the year and Christmas season have high demand, but we don't know how big the remaining stock is, so that is also useless information. The cat and dog designs included in the Pet Shop are outdated, there are newer molds for both of them, counting at least 2 years back. There are also easier and cheaper ways to get the cat, either via bricks & pieces or bricklink if you are just after the animals. Quote

She's after just the cat, I'm after the whole set  . We've collected three modulars so far - I want to collect them all but she won't let me unless there's something in it for her ;) (the cat). Actor Builder Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Here's what you do: Purchase about 20 of the recent Santa's Visit set, it has an orange tabby in it. Every time you buy a large set that doesn't have a cat in it, sneak one of those cats into it so your fiancé finds it super appealing, after you've bought and built it in secret. Boom. Quote

Dan-147 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Green Grocer has a cat in it.. You beat me to it! The nice thing about that cat is that he's hiding in a high corner like real cats like to do. Dan-147 Quote

Wish I thought about that when my Lego store still had tons of that set in stock! Green Grocer has a cat in it.. We're actually Bricklinking that set together! She agreed, as long as she gets the cat. Haha oh boy. Quote
ecmo47 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) Detectives Office has an orange tabby in it too. Same cat as the Santa's Visit set I believe. http://alpha.brickli...lor=68#T=C&C=68 If you cant afford the Modulars right now, grab this set that has the same kitty and some great parts to detail your current modulars. http://shop.lego.com...Listing=listing This is a fun set too. Currently sold old but easy to find on the after market http://shop.lego.com...Listing=listing And this associated poly bag: http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?id=123618#T=S&O={} Edited December 12, 2015 by ecmo47 Quote
