Grandadbrick Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hi all, should have started here but never too late. My name is Steve, I'm 51 and have been away from Lego for nearly 40 years. We have a 4 year old granddaughter and I mentioned to the missus that we should have had a boy so I could get a train set. She came back with the fact she would be very happy if I did. So within 3 hours I had a 60051 from the black Friday sales. Very happy I am. I've been looking at the technics crane set for ages and wondering but the offer of the train set has set me alight! I'm in the NE of England near Durham and would be happy to drag the little boss along to a show or two... Cheers, Steve Quote
deraven Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Welcome to EB, Grandadbrick! Excellent that you jumped in and took the plunge, though your wife might eventually be sorry she got you started. All kids are different, but my 5-year-old daughter loves Lego of all kinds. She's played with Duplo since she was born (thanks to her brother who came along 2 years before she did), but has been into System-scale Lego since she was about 3.5 and can already easily do the 8-14 Age recommended sets with minimal to no help. She enjoys everything from Friends, to Elves, to Chima, to Star Wars, so I'd say not to be afraid to grab something for your granddaughter and see if she'd enjoy spending some time building with Grandadbrick! What worked best for me and my kids as they've been growing up is having a larger/more complicated set for myself and a related but smaller/easier for them so we could build together and I'd be there to quickly offer unobtrusive assistance if needed, but neither of us got frustrated with the other trying to build the same set, and then when we were done we could play with them together and have some more fun. Happy building, for yourself and/or with the little one! Quote
