Zoshi Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I've noticed that Lego has started using a new, softer material for capes. I don't own any of them(yet) but I'm curious as to other's thoughts on them. Which version do you think is superior? Do you think this is temporary, or has Lego changed them for good? As for me… I'll reserve judgement until I have one, but as long as they're not made of felt or some crap like that I don't think I'll mind them too much. However, I don't like the neck-covering, I never thought Thor was in desperate need of a scarf… Quote
Cyanide-Tipped Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hmmm...I'll have to keep an eye out for that too. For example, with the Boba Fett keychain his cape was very stiff and I'm glad it was. A "felt" one or something like that surely would have ripped in my pocket by now. Quote
Deadshot Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I have a few of the new ones (Batman, Thor, and the Brainiac Attack set, with Superman, Supergirl, and Martian Manhunter, who has 2 capes), and I prefer them. I see it this way... Pros (Compared to the old ones) -Very flexible. Allows you to pose or place figures in ways that the previous cape wouldn't allow, or would be misshapen by. Cons -Feels a little more delicate. Possibly easier to rip or earlier to fray. Haven't had either of those issues so take it with a grain of salt. -Some real nitpicking here, but they're a little thicker. Good in some aspects, makes it feel a little more substantial or quality-made, but around the neck of a minifigure, it doesn't lay flat against the shoulders, it puffs up around the neck, making the figure look like...well, like he doesn't have a neck. (Sorry for the size of the picture. New one is on the right, which is the same Thor that I have) http://www.futurerulerofmidgard.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/old-vs-new-lego-thor.jpg Quote
Darkdragon Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 That's a nice comparison picture. I found that on the CMF wizard the material seemed thinner (and softer) that previous capes. Another thing I noticed was that it was the only figure in the CMF line that had the new cape material, the King for example has the stiffer kind. So, I'm not sure if they are completely switching or not. Please change your image to a link or resize it. It is too big for our image guidelines, but you can resize it for free at www.picresize.com and save it to your favorite image hosing site. Quote
Junior Shark Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I like the new capes. The old capes stuck like glue to the back of minifigures. The new ones are more like real capes, they flow better, they feel better. They are a little thicker, but c'est la vie, cuz the pros outwiegh the con. My 2 cents Quote
Captain Nemo Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Oh I absolute hate the new thick capes. I already have a bunch from the Superhero line, and honestly I don't even like toughing the minifigures that use them. Despite being flexible, the new capes feel extremely fragile, like they could rip any second. Worst of all, they just look terrible on figures. They are far too thick, especially at the neck, and they make any figure look like they're wearing a scarf. Quote
dr_spock Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I prefer the thinner old capes for displaying. The new ones seem like they can handle playing more without leaving a permanent crease if you bent it too much. They look like a thick winter cape on a fig which might work for a Frozen set. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Has anyone tried ripping one? Like seeing how much force is needed to rip an old cape vs the new cape? I think the idea was the new capes will not bend/crease when put into vehicles. They will flex more. You'd think this being a toy they would want better durability also, but they do seem more fragile. Quote
