Technic Jim Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Hello all. At the moment I am working on building a drift car. I know what size wheel I want but as I go on bricklink to by some I see that there are a lot of different sizes. The wheels I want are ones that will fit on Unimog rims so can anyone help. The first size wheel was this one, found in the 42000 Grand Prix racer The second one was this one found in the Ferrari from 2003 The last one was this one used in Sariels moc F1 Car. And lstly what about 44777? Are these wheels all different sizes or am I being stupid? Thank you, Jim Quote
RohanBeckett Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I have the last one - they are hard plastic - and on the RC Buggy Cars, are lots of fun to drift around floorboards/tiles, and even asphalt (although of course that wears them down a bit) Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 As Rohan says, only the 44777 are made from solid smooth plastic, but you will need all 4 if you want to do more than donuts. The other tires will have so much surface area in soft rubber that no LEGO motor will make them drift. Unless you go to the ice rink that is. Quote
dougstar Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 what you can do is put insulation tape on the tires and then it ill drift. when done with the model remove tape cheep and easy Quote
Rockbrick Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 I go with the tape solution - or technic tracks around them Quote
Technic Jim Posted November 23, 2015 Author Posted November 23, 2015 Thank you for all the help but I was wondering what size the rubber ones were in relation to each other and whether they would fit on the Unimog rims. Although, I may have to get some 44777 wheels... Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Here is a comparison. Hope it helps: Left to right: 1. 44777 (68.8mm) Solid smooth 2. 44771 (68.8mm) in 8070 3. x1825 (81.6mm) in 42000 Grand Prix racer 4. 32296pb01 (81.6mm) in Sariels moc F1 Car as you put it. 5. 92912 (94.3mm) in your unimog The rims used in your unimog will work with 2, 3 and 5. You can also refer to Sariel's wheel chart, which is very handy. Quote
Technic Jim Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Thank you a lot for this, it is really helpful because I was so confused. Presumably the 4th wheel uses power puller rims. Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Presumably the 4th wheel uses power puller rims. Yes that's correct! Quote
Technic Jim Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Yes that's correct! Thanks for helping, I've just ordered the 68.8mm wheels. I wouldn't have known what to order but you helped so thanks for that. Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Pleasure Jim! Also, if you get any good results with that injection moulding setup let us know! Quote
