Bob De Quatre Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I've built a MOC some times ago that has absolutely nothing to do with technics... except for the wheels for which I used my old 4267 tires. Now I'd like to make instructions for that build but I'm not sure which tires to use. I've found that #55976 fits and looks cool but I'm not sure if they'll keep their shape due to the weight. Or else I could use #32019 that also fits. Since I don't own any of those "new" tires, I'd like to have your opinion, thanks. The Cockroach by BobDeQuatre, on Flickr 55976: 32019: Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Firstly, I think the wheels that you have already look perfectly appropriate for what you have built. Any reason why you want to change them? Is it just to modernize the inventory for the instructions? If you have to choose the another set, I would go for the 55976. The others look too "street" or "runway" in my opinion. The balloon tires with the same dishes will also keep with the rounded look of the model. Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 I'm looking for more easily available tires, for the instructions. I agree the balloon tires looks way better, but I'm wondering if they'll collapse under the weight of the body. For info, the two front "legs" don't support any weight. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 You can stuff "things" into the tire to keep them from collapsing under very heavy loads. The weight of your MOC will be spreadout on at least six of those tires. I guess best to test and see. Or let us know the weight of your MOC and those of us with the tires can check for you if you don't have the tires. Quote
zux Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 (edited) What's the weight of your MOC? Technic models tend to have some weight and tires do not collapse due to this. I believe you won't have any issues with one of two selected tires for your model. Edited November 16, 2015 by zux Quote
SevenStuds Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Putting the balloon tire on a scale and pushing down I get slight bulging at 1.2kg (one wheel) For two joined together, I can apply 3kg without too much deformation. Since you have 10 wheels, I would say it could carry several kgs without a hitch. Quote
Kristof Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I tried 6 of those balloon ones and it easily stands 5 kg load without noticeable squishing so I think you are good to go :) Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Ok, thanks a lot everyone I guess I'll go for the balloon tires as they looks way better! Quote
