bjornkeizers Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Hey gang! Apart from my interest in LEGO, I also happen to be quite the aviation nut. On my most recent plane spotting trip to Schiphol, I picked up two LEGO glider sets, 4442 http://brickset.com/sets/4442-1/Glider I'm currently in the process of building up a little city with some modulars, couple of roads... and I want to add a detailed glider field to it, rather than the so-so airport sets of old. So I figured I'd design a little shed of a type that's fairly common on many small fields. It doubles as a rain shed, meeting spot, 'control tower' and a place to grab a cup of coffee. I designed it in LDD first, then ordered a ton of parts through Bricklink. The design was only finalised when I built it - as is usual - when I discovered a few ways to tweak it here and there. For instance, the first LDD build did not have the removable roof sections. The green plate under it is only a temporary thing, it's eventually going on the 32x32's that are sitting here, but I'll need a few more parts for the rest of the airfield (taxiway lights, fences, windsock, bike rack, glider tow, picnic table, etc. etc.) If anyone would like the LDD file -which would severely surprise as well as flatter me- I'll be happy to share it here. SollX Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Looks good! very recognizable. living in the flevopolder myself i sometimes come across a glider airfield some times and this could fit in nice. great size. it could have been transported there by a city scale truck. Quote
Only Sinner Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 This is great! looks just like a real one. Quote
bjornkeizers Posted October 26, 2015 Author Posted October 26, 2015 Thanks guys! I also posted this on Reddit's LEGO sub and the comments were all quite wonderful. Mostly: "that looks exactly like my local airfield!" which means I did a nice job with it Of course, it helps that the red/white checker pattern is the global aviation standard, so all of them are pretty much painted like this by default. And yes, being modelled after a prefab cabin, a decent sized City flatbed would haul this nicely. I'm actually planning on doing a possible second build of this but more in tower form, just to see what I could build in this theme. Quote
