Hinckley Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hello, everyone! Long-time lurker, first-time poster here.Wanted to share that I purchased this set in a Target store on Tues. evening for $49.99. That Target store is located in mid-Iowa (middle of the US). I checked two other area stores and they did not have the set available. Naturally, I was very excited to find this set so early. I'm trying to post pics; since I'm new, we'll see if that works. I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so one thing I can tell you is that there are two styles of dwarf beard. Buckshot! Thank you for confirming and welcome to Eurobricks. I am now searching for a 24 hour Target. I must get several copies of this set! *wub* *wub* *wub* I'm in Chicago, so I'll let you guys know if and where I find it! :'-) I'm so excited! Welcome again Buckshot, you're one of my favorites now! Thanks for breaking the lurking barrier to bring us the great news!! Quote
Buckshot Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hate to reply to my own post, but I noticed the troll pic worked! As for the troll, the head and legs don't move. The arms are attached with blue technic pins and rotate 360 degrees. The hands rotate 360 degrees also, and include the added feature of a square bottom. This allows the troll to hold mere humans/orcs/dwarves by their ankles! Yar! The beard pic is small/poor quality; I was trying to show you the two styles. One style has two braids in front, one in the back; the other has three braids in front, two in the back. Quote

Good luck with your search--the Target I found this set at only had five (four now >:-) , and they were all above the normal shelves. Welcome to EB buckshot! Not rubbery? Also, does the "Helmet" of the troll come off? Thanks, Starwars4J! The beards are hard plastic, and sadly the helmet does NOT come off. Here's the helmets (sorry the pics are so small--I'm still learning :'-( ). The winged helmets are slightly different than the non-winged helmets above the eyes. I love this set; one thing that did not impress me was that the golden winged helmet was loose in the box (not bagged); almost as though it had been added as an after-thought. Quote

It includes how to deeplink images, how to upload images to an online photosharing account, and how to resize them. Odd about that helmet being separate...thanks for the information! Quote

Usually the problem new members have with pictures is that they are too big! Anyways, from the pics you gave us (which being as clear as they are, don't need bigger pics ;-) ), the non-winged helmets look like the helmets on the preliminary trolls/goblins/orcs. -Chuck Quote
Shadows Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 It's so close to what I wanted that I can't complain. The helmets and some of the odds and ends make up for any shortcomings, and a Target exclusive also means a S@H exclusive, so don't forget to check those LEGO brand stores and online, no reason anyone can't find this one, and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to. Welcome again Bucky, great way to intro yourself, you're hero of the day *y* Quote

After our diasppontment with vikings, we have now 2 new designed beards :-D Please show us more pics ;-) *yoda* Quote
Hewman Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Ooooh! *wub* This is brilliant! *sweet* Thanks Natelite!Anyone notice that the Dwarf is making a grill helmet for the crownies? I think thats sweet! *sweet* I am so glad they kept the beards, and look at all that treasure! *wub* And that brickbuilt sledgehammer and tan troll! *wub* This set is almost perfect. Because it is an exclusive does this mean it won't come to Australia, because we didn't get the Golden Guardian or Skeleton Ship Attack. :'-( I may have to order it with huge postage costs! :'-( TTFN! >:-) I have a catalogue for Australia and this set is in it, apparently available in November as an exclusive to one shop but it didn't say which shop. BrotherDog Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 (edited) I think Lego is also continuing doing their bit against Wal-Mart. Every major store gets the occasional exclusive, some more than others. But never WalMart to my recollection. Good for TLC. Fight the man! ?!?!?!?! If anything Target is the man, with thier elitist attacks against charities. I've worked at all 3, Kmart, Target, and Walmart. Target was the worst. ;;D But seriously. Thankfully it isn't another TRU exclusive, those jerks refuse put a store in our region, and they won't answer any shipping questions online. What's their problem anyway? All that aside, this set and it's companions look sweet... ;;D Some of it might even make halfway decent D&D figs. Please, please, please, more pics please... ;;D Edited October 5, 2007 by BrotherDog Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Thanks for the wonderful pics and information, buckshot *wub* and welcome username_taken :-D I'm loving the beards and helmets, I can't wait to get this set *wub* It seems the original picture in the catalogue was the final picture, I can see now the new orc/troll torsos, grill helmet and the *knight* helmet. Shakar Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 7036 review over CC! What can I say...it's fantastic. Definately the set I'm looking foward the most right now. This is something that caught me: The dwarve beards are great. Unlike the current wizard beard which just covers the front of the fig, the dwarven beards cover the front and back of the fig. The front is the beard of course and in the back it looks as if the figs hair is flowing out the back of his helm. Do you know what this means?HAIR UNDER THE HEADGEAR! Sure, it's only a start, but Lego may try to do something like this for other minifigs. I for one would be very happy. Shakar Quote
Vader Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 The giant troll has four points of articulation instead of two as I thought it would. The arms are attached with blue technic pins and the hands have a molded pin that fits into a hole at the wrist (the hands come preattached, the arms do not). So, both arms move at the shoulder and both hands move at the wrist. The hands are designed so that they can hold minifig accessories and also a minifig foot (the back of the box shows a giant troll holding a dwarve upside down). One minor quibble: the holes in the armor/helm take viking horns, but are shallow so that the horns don't sit flush. The armor and helmet are not removable. So the arms are removable, that's great for staging battles etc. I can see a few moc's showing up with knights removing troll arms X-D . Having the hands able to rotate is again great news, i never liked the older models that coulnt be moved. If the hands also hold a figs lego then i'm guessing there's gonna be a lot of dwarf tossing going on X-D It's a shame that the viking horns don't sit flush in the helmet, however there are ways around that if your willing to slightly smooth the ends out. Oh and 2 more of these sets have appeared on ebay today. Quote
Shakar Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I like how the trolls can grab minifig acessories. You can make them use different weapons other than their wacking clubs, like halberds, torches, etc....not only that, they can also catch minifigs! >:-) Shakar Quote

The Brick Rat Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 7036 review over CC!What can I say...it's fantastic. Definately the set I'm looking foward the most right now. This is something that caught me: Do you know what this means? HAIR UNDER THE HEADGEAR! Sure, it's only a start, but Lego may try to do something like this for other minifigs. I for one would be very happy. Shakar Hi. I'm the one who wrote the 'mini' review at CC. Just to clarify, I don't want anyone thinking that the dwarf beard/hair actually goes under the helmet. Rather the back of the dwarven helms and the top of the hair sit flush with each other so it looks as if the hair is flowing out from under the helm. It's a very nice effect, but also has some drawbacks. Most Castle headgear won't work with the dwarven beard piece. The ones I found that did: Forestmen's Hat - But there is a gap between the hat and the hair that exposes the back of the minifigs head. Vikings Hat - Same gap as noted above. Wizards Hat - Actually looks pretty good. Castle Helmet with neck protector - It doesn't sit completely flush, but the flared neckpiece allows it to sit far enough down for a somewhat snug fit (and it looks good). Another piece that fits is the Flat Top Hair - The back of the hairpiece sits fairly flush with the dwarven hair for a decent look. Ken Quote
