So I'm surfing BrickLink, looking for pieces, and come across this : http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?colorID=6&itemID=1262

Now, these would be my choice, as apposed to a bunch of these : http://www.bricklink.com/search.asp?colorID=6&itemID=528

But the weird part is that there are none for sale outside of Europe. Not too big of a deal, but when I look here : http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=4510&in=S

It doesn't show green ever coming in ANY sets!

So I guess my question is, where do these come from?

It happens more often. Now and then people that work at LEGO seem to be able to produce parts in special colors that if they don't make it into sets are getting distributed using other channels. I have 1x4 hinge plates in brown and the also 'don't exist'.

I know ive came across the 1x2 modified plate in green on the PAB wall some years ago. Never considered though, that some items never turned up in any sets. Interesting fact :classic:

Sometimes these are "Q Parts", elements created for LEGOLAND displays or projects that have found there way to sellers or collectors somehow.

I'm not really an expert on those though, so that's about as much as I could say!

I remember reading somewhere that large enough LUGs can order batches parts in odd colors. Don't quote me on that, though.

I've got some oddities myself, for example helmet visors in white and pearl gray, I'd love to know where exactly they came from.

There are lots of parts in odd colors that never came to production. These are mostly kept in private collections, but some are willing to sell for higher price. You might find some good examples in this topic. There was another guy who shared lots of pictures, but cannot seem to remember his name here.

This is quite common. Model Shop builders can request current production parts in any currently used color, and these parts often make their way into the wild. I have Legoland exclusive parts from as far back as the 60s.

For example, take a look at the basic 2x4 brick (part 3001). There are about 25 colors listed in the BL price guide that haven never been available in sets. I have most of them - here are just a few:

I have lots of other examples, like trans-clear chains, red and black ghosts, and my favorite: a blue pteranodon!

Probably some of those awesome unrelased (Classic?) Space sets that's been shown here from time to time. I think it's quite a neat minifig and I've made a nice spaceship + base for him .. pics in due time

'tis indeed enough to make a grown pirate drool

You can handle it, I know

I have some rare parts, like the red head you see on my profile pictures. I'm new to this site, don't know how to get started. I would very much like to get in contact with you :-) Greetings from Norway
