Darth Andrew Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 This is the first major thing I have built in a while; it's also the first "action" MOC I've posted online. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/38420 Constructive criticism is appreciated! *wub* And don't mind the fact that K-3PO can be seen dead on the floor. >:-) Quote
Chuck Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Not to belittle your MOC or anything, but isn't this just hoth base on a baseplate with figs and small parts from other sets? -Chuck Quote
Hinckley Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Not to belittle your MOC or anything, but isn't this just hoth base on a baseplate with figs and small parts from other sets? Not to say your comment was rude Chuck, but your comment was rude. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for sharing Darth Andrew! I like your modifications of the Hoth Base, bigger...beefier-looks more like an ice cave. It's a nice diorama, lot's of mini-fig suffering! My favorite. *wub* Good job capturing the action of the invasion. I hope to see more of your work in the future. Quote
Darth Andrew Posted October 3, 2007 Author Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) Not to belittle your MOC or anything, but isn't this just hoth base on a baseplate with figs and small parts from other sets?-Chuck I guess, but considering I wanted to squeeze in a bit of the area outside of the base (into the already limited 48x48 plate), you can't make a battle-ravaged hanger much more exciting. :-P EDIT: I do see your point, though. I think the first shot that shows an overview of the battle makes the whole thing look bare, but it looks better in the "action" shots. It would probably look better with a studless tile floor, though I have nowhere near the supply of 2x2 studless plates to support that. :-/ Nevertheless, thanks for all the comments so far, everyone! :-) Edited October 3, 2007 by Darth Andrew Quote

PaulC Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) It's not just 7666 on a baseplate. Although you've used a lot of unmodified props from various Star Wars sets, there are some cool mods here. I really like the expanded control console. Also, it takes time and creativity to set it all up in a cool action pose. My favourite picture is the overhead view of the whole battle - there's so much going on! Great job Darth Andrew. Do you mind if I add a link to your moc on my Hoth Base Topic? Edited October 3, 2007 by PaulC Quote
Vader Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Not to belittle your MOC or anything, but isn't this just hoth base on a baseplate with figs and small parts from other sets?-Chuck And??? It's still a moc, anything that's not an offical set is a moc. Dosen't matter if he added a whols base wall around it or left it as it is, a moc is a moc. DA that's a nice moc you have there, something that i think could be even better if you expanded it a bit. :-) Quote
Shadows Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I like it, nice work! *y* Pretty much my view of the SW line, at least as far as existing themes like Hoth, is that a good MOC uses what has already been made, then makes the very most of it with arrangement and addons. You captured my idea of that quite well. *y* Quote
LuxorV Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Good MOC *y* I'd only make the door look a bit more "crushed", like the Imperials used some bombs or granades to blast it and get through... LuxorV Quote
Asuka Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 An action packed scenery with some good details like that wreckage of the anti-infantry turret. *y* Quote
Chuck Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Know what? I don't remember asking any of you about it, just Darth Andrew. He said he would gladly take criticism, and I like that he can take it without getting upset! Don't you guys get tired of ganging up on people :-| Anway, a few things could improve this to take away the nice "giant battlepack" feel ;-) : 1. give it a, or somewhat of a, roof. 2. put some ice patches, maintnence ladders, recharge wires, and computer terminals to achieve the whole "base" feel. If you do happen to use my suggestions, I can't wait for V2! -Chuck Quote

PaulC Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 *Guilt* *Shame* I didn't mean to sound down on you Chuck. Sorry. That'll teach me to post in a tearing hurry before I rush out to work. Props to Chuck and Yoda for being so positive about it, EB style. Quote
Dfenz Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I agree that anyone willing to put their MOCs up for critical review deserves encouragement. And on the theme of imperial troops entering the base here's my one and only MOC to date http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=Dfenz I've stuck it in the MOC by individual index but as no comments can be posted there I'll be a bit cheeky and sneak it in here. xwingyoda Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 For anyone: is the base wall too... messy? Maybe too many grey parts for a base on an ice planet? 8-| Pretty cool MOC there Jack Darth Andrew Nan I don't think its too messy !! I mean the Base is messy anyway and its normal that its messier due to Imperial Hostile Take Over :-P I would add more white parts inside the base though (to add an icy feeling) and add white and light bley tiles as well, but thats just me ;-) I love smooth renderings ;-) Cheers and tks for posting ;-) *yoda* Quote

Vader Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Perhaps adding some fueling pipes and tanks would also help, a long with some tools etc for repairs. Quote
Hinckley Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 and I really hope LEGO is checking this out, because I think they should be generous and produce some taun tauns just for you to add to the scene! *wub* Quote
