garethjellis Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 So it was my sad realization today that some one with the user name 'Mattheww2203' has just posted a copy of my BR 455 (featured here on my flicker) https://flic.kr/p/p899Wt to Lego IDEAS, This is really disappointing behavior and such has been reported to Lego IDEAS team Quote
Lazarus Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Not me Gareth, we traded our plans I don't think i have your 8wide on file any more just my modded 7wide Quote
garethjellis Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 I didn't think it was you Laz. We had a good gentlemen's agreement when we traded each others plans and I trust that. Quote
Redimus Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 If it's any consolation, they won't get to the making money out of it stage, no train, ever does... :( Quote
samlr Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Possibly retro-engineering, it does't seem very complex to do on your BR 455 ... Or maybe he just posted your own pictures ? It's a shame anyway ... Can you contact Lego IDEAS ? Quote
AirborneAFOL Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) I've seen this once before a couple months ago, and went to far as to chastize the poster and send an IM to alert the original designer. It really pisses me off. I truly enjoy browsing the remarkable builds on this site and draw immense inspiration from them. It bothers me that plagerists would try and profit because it inevitably gives pause to some folks about sharing their builds. I dabble on Ebay ('VeritasBricks' - mostly just parting out unwanted components of sets or PAB surpluses to help fund more Lego) - but it seems to me that there's an easy way to go about this kind of profiteering behavior. Send a message to the original designer, let them know you do a fair bit of selling/Ideas-posting, and offer to give them a cut of any profits (aka, "royalty fees") if they endorse your sale of their creation. Heck, I know I'd personally be thrilled if someone extended that courtesy to me, and would be happy with just a few bucks. But if they didn't, I'd do everything in my power to not just discredit their plageristic posting, but their operation as a whole. I'm hopeful we can root out this guy, so I can go about blacklisting him from any of my own future Ideas-support / secondary market shopping. Maybe Eurobricks should even create a formal "blacklist" of plagerists, akin to the thread for calling out trustworthy secondary market sellers? Edited October 17, 2015 by AirborneAFOL Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 (edited) Hmm... I don't know. A lot of details are spot on with your model, yet a few others are quite different (such as the headlights). There are a few options here: 1. Outright plagiarism with small mods 2. He used your model as inspiration while he built his. 3. Very similar design by odd coincidence. 1 and 2 are the most likely. Edited October 17, 2015 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
