Growing up I was a creative type so I loved the idea of legos, but I wanted to use them in unconventional ways, and I never had enough of the colors and styles I wanted to build my own Barbie houses and other inventions. They ended up in the attic, and I spent my childhood crafting and building in other ways. I didn't even know there was such a huge a world of Legos until I bought a set to use as part of an object lesson in my work with adolescent girls and their families. It was just a little communication exercise I picked up from someone else, but the feedback on how much the families enjoyed the activity was pleasantly surprising - it helped teach and keep the attention of siblings of all ages, which was really helpful to me. So, I invested in a few classic brick boxes and was pleasantly surprised to see pink bricks! And light blue, and all of these new and interesting pieces. Really, I think that was the beginning of true Lego Love for me. My kids were still toddlers then, but soon after my oldest started asking me to build him towers with booby traps to play with, and I wanted more to build with. Quite a few Christmases, birthdays, and impulsive shopping sprees later, we have overflowing cabinets full of legos, and for the past few days our family room has been full of all of the bins we pulled out to find all of the pieces to my son's Vampyre castle so we can build a little Halloween village around it. I've been lurking around the community for a few years now, and I have more digital designs, pinterest boards, and bookmarks than I could ever really use, so I thought it was time to join a forum so I can actually post a couple of questions I've had for a while now - and also post compliments on the creativity I've admired over the years!

Welcome to the forum! I joined today as well. I haven't been out of my dark ages nearly as long as you. Lego is a great family hobby and its nice that your kids are becoming fans as well. I'm still working on mine.
